9/15/10 - Post Effing Livan Game Thread
Sorry for the thread name but it's getting harder and harder to watch this. In the 4th inning of today's game with the Nats, Minor struck out the first batter and then induced a double play grounder to end the inning. Not one Braves player left the field. Everyone of them lost track of the outs. It was so embarrassing that it might actually wake them up.
They've started off the bottom of the 4th with 2 hits. Runners at 2nd and 3rd no out. Then Gonzalez popped out weakly and now with runners on 2nd and third and one out the great Melky comes up. He promptly does....guess what....you'll never guess....not in a million years....HE GROUNDED OUT! A run did manage to score 4-1 nats, 2 out and Ross up.

Braves have a little rally started in the bottom of the 6th. Diaz singled (now 3 for 3 as is Prado) and Melky actually got one airborne and singled to right. One out runners on 1st and 2nd. Ross at the plate.

There is no excuse for losing even one game to the Pirates and the Nats at this time of year. No excuse.
If I hear that dolt Leo Mazzone say on the radio one more time that these teams are paid to win, too, I'll puke. Neither the Pirates nor the Nats are paid to do anything but show up--they are out of the race and playing out the string. Maybe free agents and kids playing for a job have something to play for, but that's it.
If you can't at least take 4 of 6 from teams like this (and that should be the bare acceptable minimum), then you don't deserve to be in the playoffs. Simple. It looks like we are going to go 2 for 6.

My gaff. Ross was up with 2 on and 2 out and promptly whiffed. So once again, no damage done. The Braves are down 4-2 going into the 7th. Good news for the day, Nat pitcher Lannan has not gotten a homer or a key hit in this one!

Cox pinch hits Diory Hernandez to start the 7th and somehow Riggleman took the bait and pulled Lannan .
RHP Joel Peralta comes in to face Hinske who replaces Diory.

Hinske hits a can of corn for LF that the nats can't find in the sun and Hinske lumbers into 2b with double.
Infante then drops a beaut of a bunt actually trying for a hit, but Zimmerman nips him. Man on 3rd, 1 out and Heyward up. Braves pen has kept them in this one to give them a shot. Minor did a nice job after the 2nd inning slam. Hopefully, it wasn't to little to late.
Lefty coming to face Heyward.

Dang...shattered bat bloop to second for Heyward. 2 out man on 3rd. Need a huge two out hit from Prado who is 3 for 3.

Prado whiffs runner straded. Still 4-2 Nats heading to the 8th.
Note: Since the one out grand slam in the 2nd inning, Minor, Moylan and Saito have faced the minimum. The slam was hit by .141 hitting Justin Maxwell. good grief.
top of the 8th, Venters in the game.

Venters gives up a leadoff hit then gets a comebacker for an easy DP but Venters throw was bad so the Braves only got the guy at 2nd. Gonzalez saved the throw from going into RF which would have been a disaster.

Venters hits a batter and walks the next to load them up for the Nats best hitter, Zimmerman with two outs. This game is definitely on the ropes. Venters staying in to pitch to Zimmerman.

Venters gets Zimm to swing at the first pitch and gets a ground out to Prado. Braves still alive moving into the bottom of the 8th down 4-2.
Dunn not in the lineup today which is doubly frustrating.

Glaus rips a leadoff single to start the 8th. Freddie goes in to run.
Riggleman had gone to the no doubles outfield defense with a 2 run lead which let Glaus' line fall in. Thank goodness for dumb managers.
Diaz up.

Diaz whiffs and Gonzalez promptly hits a 3-1 pitch on a hop to Zimmerman who turns the DP. Gonna take another 9th inning uprising to pull this one out. This team has definitely gotten punch drunk at the hands of the hapless Pirates and Nats.
Kimbrel brings his high wirer act to the 9th.
