Gamethread: Rays @ Braves - 6/17/2010
Billy Hohn is behind the plate tonight. So in order to get a victory, the Braves will have to defeat two opponents.
No score after the first.

B.J. Upton got picked off to end the top of the second. He had his entire upper body turned toward second base, as if he thought there was no chance Hudson would throw over to him. It was weird.
In the bottom of the second, McCann got a hit. Hinske hit one hard but couldn't get it to land, and Escobar made good contact after a really good at bat, but he was out as well. The Braves don't seem to be fooled by Shields.

Huddy looks like his usual self. After a three up three down top of the third, there's still no score.

It's the bottom of the sixth, it's tied 1-1. The Braves' run came off of a Heyward homerun.
They just walked McCann to load the bases and face Glaus with two outs.
And he gets a base hit to right!! Two runs score!! 3-1 Braves!!

There was a great snuggle hug between Mac and Medlen after the rain delay, before the game started. I'll try to pull the video for the blog -- I know you all care so much. Meds held it a liiiiiittle too long, and Mac started grinning. It was cute!

After retiring the first two hitters in the Rays' lineup, Venters walked Longoria and got Pena to hit a weak tapper to second for the third out. Going into the bottom of the eighth, the Braves have a 3-1 lead.

Oh sorry, they already went. Braves win 3-1. Mets won again, so the lead is still ˝ game.

The Braves just took two of three from a team that is probably the best team in baseball. If they're not, there's only one team that is better than them.
Then again, give the Braves another month or so and they might be the consensus best team in baseball.

Gotta love Billy Wagner's line tonight, 6 pitches, all fastballs between 96 - 98, all strikes, 3 outs. That's what I call efficient.

They're beating up on teams who are a combined 44 games UNDER .500.
I'm not concerned, just annoyed.

They should just call themselves the New York Gnats. Has a nicer ring to it. Problem is, most New Yorkers wouldn't spell it correctly. They would probably abbreviate it "Natzzzzz".
"Gnats" certainly has a more threatening connotation than the metropolitans or metrosexuals or whatever they are.
