Gamethread: Marlins @ Braves, August 23 WIN
Ok, so it's the top of the ninth and we're up 7-5. Can't believe there's been no game thread to this point.

HUGE win, to come back like that. McCann with 5 RBIs and a big go-ahead single in the bottom of the eighth. But the next biggest performance came from Medlen...after Lowe sucked again, he shut down the fish for 2 innings, which was so big.

What a huge win! No thanks to Derek Lowe. Seriously, if we'd taken of the money we've given to Lowe and Konami and put that towards a bat, we'd be in pretty damn good shape right now.

I was at work all day. I did hear about McCann's first inning homer on the radio as I headed to lunch, which was great. And then I heard Don Sutton's radio call on my way home as ESPN Radio featured the single that put the Braves back ahead. Huge win.
Good to take the series.
Now if we can solve this "first game of the series" mystery, we would never lose!

I'll take Konami. He's been pretty decent and isn't all that expensive considering his ability.
I guess he's not the greatest pitcher in the world, but I don't understand the Kenshin hating.

I agree Dream. Kenshin is not overpaid. He's a quality starting pitcher and has helped the team this year.

At the time we signed Lowe and Kawakami, we had already missed out on some free agents and were still in desperate need of reliable starters. While we overpaid for Lowe, these signings were a move I probably would have made as well under the circumstances.

Touche on Konami. In fact, after reviewing the numbers, I think he's clearly had the bigger impact than Lowe. His contract is more bearable, financially. Lowe's contract was a classic overreaction to a poor off-season (to that point). At the time, I was indifferent, so it's difficult to really criticize them in hindsight, but there's no disputing the fact that Lowe hasn't earned his pay check this year.

I wasn't impressed with Kawakami at first but he's getting better and has also done a credible job matching up against the opposing team's ace this year. He's a nice 5th starter if you asked me. Lowe's overpaid and definitely isn't earning his money but the dude is still decent and would make the starting rotation of any team in baseball.
I'm just thankful we're no longer marching out duds named James, Reyes, Davies, Bennet, Carliysle, Morton etc.

Whaaa? There's a "first game of the series" mystery?
Seriously, my problem with KK involves his lack of mound presence. I guess that's what I'd call it. When he starts he gives me absolutely no feeling like confidence. Don't know why or if I'm explaining it right, but that's it. I'm always on the edge of my seat, it seems, like back when we endured Russ Ortiz. I keep waiting for the other shoe to fall. I've already lost my patience with Lowe. I was rather disappointed that he was one of the "big" pickups because I never saw him as an ace or staff leader. He's a better than average innings-eater. When his sinker's working, he's the goods. When it isn't he's Jeff Bennett minus the velocity. Still, if Lowe and KK are the 4-5 guys next year we'd have to figure we have a strong starting staff.

I returned home from a weekend long camping trip to catch the 8th inning on... luckily that's when the Braves took the lead. Great win!

HUGE series win... With all the guys banged up, I can not believe we took 2 out of 3. Medlen is really impressing now, and if we get our guys healthy and/or Chipper gets hot, we are good to go.

I was taking my weekly Sunday nap and woke up with the game tied at 5, 2 on, and McCann stepping to the plate.
It was worth waiting a couple extra minutes to go pee.
