Default Jeff Bennett Released!

...probably not an exclamation point moment, but...

Quote:
Bennett broke a bone in his left (non-pitching) hand June 24 when he angrily punched a wall near the dugout between innings of a loss against the New York Yankees. He was placed on the disabled list and had surgery a few days later.

The Braves didn’t announce it at the time, but they suspended his pay beginning June 25. He filed a grievance with the players association and continued his rehab, including two recent minor-league appearances.

When the grievance was heard, the Braves were directed to either “cure the default” by giving him his back pay for the period he was suspended, or allow him to become a free agent. Braves media-relations director Brad Hainje said Bennett requested the team release him from his contract, which they did.

Other than not agreeing with the decision to keep Norton and demote Conrad, I have had few reasons not to like what the Braves are doing.

Good riddance and he deserved to be suspended for behaving like that.

To me, this move is the biggest transaction since the McGriff trade. This shows me, FINALLY, that if you SUCK, you may actually not be on the team come stretch time. I know that he was let go for disciplanary reasons, but if he was good, it probably would have blown over. I nearly vomited every time I heard that he was warming up in the pen........Now, if only Norton would punch a door.

So much attention for such a mediocre pitcher.

I think you misread--he was picked up by the North Dakota Ray-Rays of the Major Minor Independent League in Fargo. That Tampa story is just a plant..... I mean, this is "White-Flag" Bennett we are talking about, right?
