Default Wisconsin's Bo Ryan on a powertrip

Men's college basketball coach Bo Ryan of Wisconsin is an entrenched and accomplished coach, but I just don't get why he is blocking Jarrod Uthoff from transferring to wherever he might. I know it's pretty common practice to bar guys from transferring within the conference, but Ryan added the ACC, Iowa State (all of four tournament appearances since 2000), and Marquette to his list of schools Uthoff cannot go to. Ryan's decision is not against the rules, but it's fairly ridiculous to say that Uthoff, a former Mr. Basketball for Iowa, can't go to, say, UVA because of the ever important Big Ten/ACC challenge?

What do you guys think? Seems fairly petty for a guy making $2.1M to be so worried about the future place for a guy who wasn't good enough to play for last year's team as a true freshman. Especially since if Ryan wanted to take over a high-profile team somewhere else, there is nothing Wisconsin could do to stop him.

I hate it when coaches pull this crap. I hate that the deck is stacked against the students. Technically, the school doesn't even guarantee 4 scholarship years and schools run off underachieving players all the time.

Well, I think calling many of them "students" is a bit of a stretch.

Some have no interest in school, but that's really the exception. The national media obviously focuses on the elite guys, many of whom are only interested in hanging out for a year or two and going pro. But for every elite guy there are hundreds who probably have some actual interest in getting a degree of some type.

Apparently Wisconsin has now lifted the restrictions other than the Big Ten schools.

The irony of all of this is that Ryan left another head coaching job in the middle of the contract to coach at Wisconsin. Major power trip with that guy. Glad the school lifted the excessive restrictions. This is one of the few times when the feeding frenzy of the media actually yielded a positive outcome.

College sports are such a disaster. Just, and all-around disaster. The NCAA should be dismantled.

It's disgusting but makes me wonder if there isn't more to the story like some the coach has against the kid for something he thinks the kid did.

South Park described the NCAA better than I ever could so I'll make this short.
