Here's to 2011!

Just to dust off the apparatus...
I'm intrigued by the Albert Pujols situation. His looming free agency could have a huge domino effect on baseball. Imagine the premier player being up for grabs by the MLB elite. The trickle down effect on the payroll-directed teams, the other top flite firstbasemen available and what St. Louis will do before the inevitable happens, all bear watching. Will they try and trade Pujols and clean up in talent? Will they hope he just wants to stay in St. Louis?...

3-0 then 1-2....

Kids, I'm not seeing a lot of improvement, are you? The three game sweep of the lowly Lastros picked up my spirits (and hopes) briefly, but falling on their collective kissers in D.C. has me back at the precipice of writing them off for another year. I think half the folks at the ol' Nation here could hit Scott Olsen. Thank goodness the Braves finally woke up long enough to dodge some major embarrassment! Dropping 2 out of 3 to the Nationals is bad, simply because the Braves had their shots again...

Is this what morning sickness feels like?

Posted 04-24-2010 at 09:40 PM by Freddy_Ballgame (Just One Fan's Opinion)

After watching the Braves roll over yet again, I'm left with that queasy, nauseous feeling I recognize from my old Hell-raiser days. A seriously bad "afternoon after." (Honestly, who ever woke up the morning after a really big night?) I am still mystified how the Braves can make anyone's kid pitchers, AAAA types or washed up never-was guys look like freakin' Greggie or Randy Johnson. I get losing to guys like Halladay and even a dynamic kid like Ubaldo the other night, but Geez...letting...

Worth Considering?

Posted 09-10-2009 at 11:08 PM by Freddy_Ballgame (Just One Fan's Opinion)

I'm curious. After seeing how Peter Moylan has worked this year and really pared his ERA down after a rocky start, how do you feel about considering him as a closer? I feel as confident with him on in relief as I do with any of the others. Could he possibly be a payroll-friendly closer for a year or two? Anyone else think he may be capable?
I expect Gonzo and Soriano to both be looking for closer's jobs (and pay!) after this season. I don't see any real use (or chance) in re-signing both...

More surprises...

Posted 08-20-2009 at 11:09 PM by Freddy_Ballgame (Just One Fan's Opinion)

I'm offering this just after we took 2 of 3 from the Mets. I'm delighted the Braves are still in the hunt! I'm equally delighted that someone rousted Bobby Cox and got him to start running a hustling team again, instead of just watching the talent perform. He no longer has that luxury. By pushing the action playing baseball again, or what is commonly referred to these days as "small ball," the Braves have made a move. I offered earlier that the team needed to add a couple of clutch bats...
