I won't be around for the start of the game, but Lou Piniella has announced he is calling it a career after this game instead of waiting until the end of the season. Entering his final game, he is 1,835-1,712. Hopefully, the L column will get another notch.

Hell, he may end up getting ejected today.

apparently his constitution can't handle watching his pathetic bullpen anymore....(and honestly, I can't blame him)

Lou needed to quit today so he can drive a school bus for his new job tomorrow.

His doctor thought it might be a little less stressful.

Seriously? That's crazy.

Seriously? That's crazy.

His mother's health is failing... probably from watching the Cubs bullpen this season.

Infante with a leadoff homer. Nice.

Minor strikes out 5 the first time through the Cubs' order.

1-1 after 2.

Heyward with a homer!

Ramirez with a 2-run homer to give the Cubs back the lead.

Infante with his second homer and it's a 3-run shot!

Minor had 8 K's through 3 innings, and he punches out the first hitter in the 4th.

Odd game for Minor. He either strikes the guy out or the batter knocks the hell out of it.

10 K's now through four innings.

Way to pitch around the error Minor!

A paltry one strikeout in the 5th.

Barves lead 5-3 going to the 6th.

Braves have the bases loaded in the 7th with no outs.

Derrek Lee flies out to shallow center and nobody can advance.

McCann with a grounder to first to start the DP down to second. The return throw pulls him off the bag and McCann is safe. A runs scores.

Garydee

It would be terrific if we can take two out of three with Lee and McCann as cold as ice.

Gonzalez with a blooper just out of the reach of Soriano. Two runs score and Alex gets caught in a run-down going to second. He stays in it long-enough to get the third run across.

9-3 Barves.

That was one of the worst defensive efforts in an inning that I've seen. Thanks Cubs!

Yet another appearance by Venters.

Why Bobby?

Hobbes

Luckily a quick inning for Venters.

Infante having a day with his 4th hit.

Hobbes

Heyward with a single to right to bring home the chugging Hinske.

Hobbes
08-22-2010, 04:45 PM
Prado hits a bloop to left that Soriano once again can't get to. Bases loaded.

Lee with a double to clear the bases!!

Hobbes
08-22-2010, 04:46 PM
That was Lee's first hit with the Barves. Score is now 13-3.

Not a fun final game for Pinella.

Maybe Lou thought the Cubs might play hard in his finale.

Well, that stratergy didn't work.

Lou has decided to head to the bullpen and warm up.

Lee comes home also, and it's 14-3.

Elsewhere, the Phillies lead 4-0 in the 7th, currently in a rain delay.

Moylan not fooling anybody as he gives up three straight hits to lead off the 8th.

Cubs score two. It's 14-5 heading to the 9th.

I'm not really digging Prado at 3B. Any how, Braves win!

Hobbes

Yay!

On the other hand, the Phillies now lead 6-0 in the 8th. We really seem to be in lock-step with the Phils. They seem to win when we win and lose when we lose.

Sweet Lou was pretty emotional in the post-game interview with reporters.

Kind of makes me wonder how it's going to be for Bobby Cox???

I wonder if any Mgr in history began his final season losing 16-5 and ended losing 16-5 against the same team?

The top two spots in the lineup account for eight of Atlanta's runs scored.

That was a nice outcome. The Cubs will really enjoy winning a WS in 160 years or so.

I'd love to watch the game on MLB.com...talk about a spanking...but I can't stand Chip Caray and Joe Simpson. I'll just listen to it on gameday audio tonight, instead.

I'm hoping for an even 200 years (i.e. after I am dead). The Cubs and their fans irk me and I love it every time they get spanked, even if it's not by the Barvos.

The Cubs have brought me great joy and pain as a Braves fan. The year the Cubs beat the Braves because Wood and Prior somehow didn't lose their arms throwing 140 pitchers per night all season and into the playoffs was awful. The next season the Braves got the opportunity to knock the Cubs out of the playoff race and it was wonderful. I knew the Braves were in good hands when the game was in Smoltz's hands. Cubs fans spent all season claming this was the year and it was great to see that dream crushed. Francoeur hitting a 3 run HR to help deliver a 4 game sweep was great. The Cubs radio personalities claimed the Braves had switched Smoltz and Horacio's start times in the double header to make setup a split and ensure the Cubs didn't take both games. Yeah, wishful thinking on Chicago's part. I've heard plenty of late about how Piniella was so wonderful and I can't think of a better way to see him out.
