Anyone know much about Wilkin Ramirez? I haven't seen what we gave up but it doesn't appear to be much.

He looks like he could be promising.

Ramirez was acquired for the well-traveled PTBNL or cash.

Ramirez is a player with average skills in just about all he does, which is better than below-average skills, I guess. Basically a toolsy outfielder in the mold of George Lombard and Cory Aldridge, except those guys are in their 30's now. He has been in the Baseball America Top 10 list for the Tigers for three consecutive seasons and played in the Futures Game twice.

If Ramirez ever learns some plate discipline, he could be a major league contributor. If not, he will likely get a collection of AAA hats.

Here's an article I found on Wilkin "I need a nickname" Ramirez. The Braves take another step to improve team speed.

Luckily, the Braves have a hitting coach who is renown for turning just this type of guy around! I look for TP to "shorten his swing and get him to think about keeping his hands inside the ball". Before you know it Wilkie will be a .250 type hitter with no power at all instead of just some .250 hitter with power. AND best of all, he'll strike out less!
