ESPN radio this morning said Oswalt to Phils is a done deal, pending Roy's consent to the trade. No word on who would be going the other way.

If true, this really, really sux....Why can't he go to the freaking Dodgers?; or the AL?

I wouldn't sweat this that much, pitchers only make an impact every 5th day and Oswalt isn't the same guy he was 3 or 4 years ago... IMO, this maybe gives them 2 or 3 more wins at most...

Yes, but you forget they have Utley waiting in the wings. I expect a nice late surge from them. They are dangerous, have more offensive depth than we do, and this really gives them depth where they needed it: innings out of the starting rotation.

they improved themselves. IMO, we haven't. I think this move definitely should give us a sense of urgency to make a move to improve our offense.

It is a good addition for them but not on the level of either Halladay or Cliff Lee (since gone. Oswalt today doesnlt compare to Oswalt of a few years ago and even though they are waiting for Utley to return (probably weeks away) they also lost Victorino. Their main Achilles Heel is the bullpen anyway because no one knows what to expect from Lidge

Me last week: October baseball!

Me this week: when do pitchers and catchers report in 2011?

But we extended David Ross...that's like extending team chemistry. And that's really all a team needs to win. A bunch of guys who like one another.

"for left-handed starter J.A. Happ and two prospects, outfielder Anthony Gose and shortstop Jonathan Villar."

meh...I don't really care. All I know about Gose is he's very fast. I know nothing of villar.

Well, they traded Gose for Brett Wallace from the Blue Jays to pick up Berkman's heir apparent.

They gave up prospects for lee. Then they let lee go and signed Halladay....who cares. They're both great. Now they let some prospects go for Oswalt...and give up Happ. Again, who cares? It's not like Happ was a bum. NL East pitching is beastly; but I don't think we're behind anyone. Obviously we don't have a halladay, but when considering one through five I still think we're the best rotation in the division.

Even October pitching....I guess I'll give the edge to the phills. I'm more concerned about their bats heating up, and the bats coming off injury.

Nice to see their farm system get weaker again though. They may become the yanks of the NL.
