Matt Diaz will be activated on Tuesday.

Since Heyward was struggling with his thumb not feeling well I don't think the Braves had any choice but to give him a semi-break and hope that does enough to get him through the seaosn. I read another article with an interesting fact.
Heyward has just a .232 slugging percentage , one home run and .506 OPS in his past 24 games with a plate appearance. In Heyward's first 46 games, he hit .301 with a 1.017 OPS.
I don't think Heyward was going to have a 1+ OPS for the rest of the season if he was healthy but he's definitely much better than a .506 OPS when healthy, and if he can't do better than that with his thumb then it's time for him to go on the DL and see what happens. It's a shame this has happened after he started out so wonderfully but I'd rather see the Braves be cautious with him now given he's young and should only get better.

As one of the Young Ones might say..."Truly a bottomer.." If he comes back from the DL healthy, he'll be a welcome boost in a coupla weeks. What date will they go back to to begin the 15 days? (Can't read any links at work, LabCorp denies them!)

Heyward would be eligible to be activated just before the All-Star game.
For the record, I essentially feel the same way KB does. His best chance to get better during the season is to string together some off-days. He probably should have done this a month ago, but better to take care of it now than wait until September.
On the other hand, I'm not optomistic that it will sufficiently heal during the season to make a difference. In that article before it was updated, Bobby Cox stated that he was jammed in 1960 and that he still feels his bone bruise to this day, and he believes it could be something Heyward will have to learn to deal with indefinitely. Not very encouraging.

The fact that his thumb is being put in a cast for immobilization should clue us in as to how seriously they're taking this.
