What do you guys think of Julio Teheran? A good amount of people believe he is the next great pitching prospect in Atlanta. I haven't heard much about him other than that though. If anyone knows anything more about him, please post here. Any scouting report or personal evaluations would be great.
His stat line this year so far doesn't look so impressive:
1-2, 6.60 ERA, 6 G, 15 IP, 18 H, 12 R, 11 ER, 2 HR, 4 BB, 17 SO
It's probably too early to really judge the kid just on his stats. I'm still willing to hear more about him though.

I know the kid was very young when we signed him, and he's only turned 18 in January.
Tremendous upside but he's still very young.

I want to say he had some shoulder problems last year, that held him back some.

Those are his stats from last year. The short season leagues haven't started yet. Haven't heard anything about where he's headed this year. On a side note, does anyone know if these guys are in some training camp before the short season starts?

These guys tend to play in "Extended Spring Training" which, if I am not mistaken, can actually last into September or October.

Yeah I remember Hampton pitching there in October a few years ago.
Teheran is under way in Danville (4 starts) and doing quite well. 22 2/3 in, 23h, 6er 3bb 16 Ks. He's also sporting a 2.43 gb/fb ratio and no taters allowed. It's a small sample size so things could change quickly but his ratios (k/bb, gb/fb, bb/9, hr/9) sure look good. Hope he keeps improving.

It still surprises me when semi-famous people allow themselves to be searchable on Facebook. Some are smart and make themselves unsearchable, but if you have some mutual friends, you can still find their profile (http://www.facebook.com/matte02)s. ;)

Awesome. It will be fun to watch him rise through the system over the next few years. Hopefully he reaches his potential.
Teheran tossed a 7 inning no-hitter for Rome on Tuesday. Here's a little news writeup in BaseballAmerica about Teheran, Cody Johnson and Kimbrel. Go down to "Dish Pieces" to find it.
