I really like the game, but so far I have to question player development. I don't know if a patch has addressed this, but... I have so many young, top flight prospects who break into the MLB and put up a big, stellar season within their first couple of seasons, but afterward... it's a slow, steady, and inevitable decline to suckdom. By age 30, they're usually totally washed up and unproductive... with sub-.800 OPS's.

Does this happen to you? I have yet to strike gold with any of the awesome youngsters I've had on my team.

I haven't noticed that myself, but I'll keep on the lookout.

One thing I did notice is that their OPS and some of their other stats are a bit wrong because the formulas are not complete.

That last time I played this it was OOTP6. It was incredibly fun. With how little graphics and how small this game is they need to put it on the cell phone!

I've now added this to my Christmas list :)

So did you end up getting it?

I'm still seeing basically the same trend in player development. For what it's worth, it might be a bit more realistic.

Basically, having a guy come up from the minors with a really high ceiling will generally equate to that ceiling dropping some before he even reaches his prime (age 28). It really doesn't matter how well he plays. In the case of one of my highly coveted young hitters, he had 2 injuries last season that both resulted in a month of recovery time. Between his potential ratings and his actual ratings [according to my scout], he had filled out. He was a 17/20 in contact and 18/20 in home runs. He was 20/20 in walks. I also track these ratings through the editor to verify his actual values.

Granted he had two injuries during the season and returned and played really well... just a little worse than when he was healthy... from one season to the next, his ratings and potential dropped to a 13 in contact, 14 in home runs, and a 20 in walks. He is now 29.

So what? Did he peak early? Will he recover? Or is this what I can generally expect from now on? He will most likely struggle to even hit 30 home runs now. This is just two seasons after hitting 40 homers. He was generally a .300+ hitter who would hit .320. Now, it looks like he'll do well to hit above .280. It kind of breaks my heart to see such a player take a dive like that before he's even 30!

He's just another of a half dozen guys I've had who hit .320 or better between the ages of 23 and 28... who will inevitably go on to have sub .800 OPS's for most of the rest of their careers.

Granted I've only played through six seasons, I can honestly say this is in stark contrast to previous OOTP games. Likewise with the injuries, which I've lowered to one notch above the lowest setting, there appears to be a lot more injuries. Just makes for some fun lineups.

Are you honestly not having a similar experience with this game? I didn't even tweak with the settings except to lower injuries and enforce a salary cap--which, btw, there were scarcely any worthwhile free agents until I instituted a salary cap that stopped the upper third of the league from resigning all their players.

Really fun game, though. I finally won the division and the world series this past season. It took me five seasons to get to the World Series. I don't think it has ever taken me this long to turn a team around. Fun.

I'm not seeing an error with the OPS stat. OPS = OBP + SLG. I can't speak for the other statistics. I don't delve deeply into stats like VORP and isoSLG.
