View Full Version : Jason Heyward promoted to Gwinnett
Per Carroll Rogers:Just heard Jason Heyward is on his way to Gwinnett. Found out last night. So I suspect he’ll be there today, get a couple games to finish out the regular season and head to the playoffs with them.

Well, that's good news. So if he gets a few hits in Gwinnett, that shows that he's ready for Atlanta in the spring, right?

I doubt he'll come up in the spring no matter what. He's destined for Tommy Hanson treatment next year.
I do hope he does well... especially in the Arizona Fall League. I have a feeling Heyward and Trasburg will be a very good matchup to watch.

See, Gilley was right. Heyward would get a promotion to help for the playoff run.
Unfortunately, he was just off on which Braves team.

Heyward just got his first hit, RBI, and SB at AAA.

We'll see you in Atlanta June 1 or 2 Jason. It's too bad the Braves can't afford to bring you up sooner, but a mid payroll team has to do what they can do to compete longterm and unfortunately for you, you lose. In the meantime have fun laughing at how much better you are than everyone not named McLouth in the outfield right now.

while Mid June is the most likely outcome, alot will depend on how the off season falls...maybe after the Glavine situation the Braves won't attempt to be in the same spot in 2010 and go with the best guy out of Camp...but another factor could be what decision Bobby makes aboute retirement this off season, the next manager might like to go with young guys and might convince Wren to let him keep JH up...

Spot on. I can't wait to read the "Matt Diaz is ready for a full time starting position" propaganda in the offseason.

I would give Diaz a first-baseman's mitt to learn how to play the position and then let Greg Norton go. To me the best of everything would be a starting trio of McLouth, Heyward and Shafer with Church and Diaz as reserves. I think Heyward starting the season with us will be determined by his performance in Arizona.

Matt Diaz at first makes Ryan Howard look like a gold-glover.
I'd let Norton go regardless. I'd even let Norton go if our only backup at first was Kenshin Kawakami.

I thought we tried the Diaz everyday experiment last season and it failed quite miserably, leading to the Blanco in LF experiment. When a player makes Blanco look really attractive as an everyday option it's a bit concerning. I see Diaz becomes the solid utility player he is and leave it at that.

I don't think anybody, either in the front office or on this forum, sees Diaz as an everyday player at this point. He's a good option if you are forced to utilize a platoon in the OF, or as a great bat off the bench. But I don't think anybody will be advocating for him as a full-timer.

It's not a question of what you think. It's a question of an extra year of arbitration for the Braves. If you honestly think the Braves will open the season with Heyward in RF you are mistaken. That means they will have "sell" someone to the fans. That guy is Diaz. The front office will "act" like they have put their best foot forward, but we'll all know the truth. Our best RF will start the year in AAA.

But that doesn't mean they would intend for him to be full-time. I'm not saying that the Braves won't make plans for Diaz and drag their feet on Heyward, only that they won't make the mistake of having him play full-time. Nor do I believe they will they publicly tout him that way.

The Braves don't publicly tout Diaz at all. He's in his fourth season with the Braves and the Clubhouse Store has never sold a t-shirt with his number on the back...yet some guys (McLouth, Hanson, Lowe) have had t-shirts there from their first day of play with the Braves. I understand the Kawakami and Anderson shirts; they're the only players of their respective races on our team.
