New, from Randum House publishers and Fee-ascoh books, a new kids' book in time for Halloween:

Francoeurr and the Unassisted Triple Play. Author Omart Mineye-yah weaves this thrilling yarn about a young baseball player who stumbles across a bat, a batting glove, and a new stadium, steps up to the plate, and with very little assistance, hits into a game ending triple play!!!!

Your kids will thrill to the moans and groans from the crowd, the helpless hand flaling from Francoeurr, and the subtle touches only Mineye-yah can bring, like his character Gerry Manwail signalling both baserunners to run with less than two outs!

On bookshelves soon! So real, you'll think you have chalk in your eyes!!!

That's about the only way Lidge closes out a save these days.

The first problem was calling for a hit-and-run with Francoeur at the plate. That was asking for trouble.

It must have been be a slow sports weekend because ESPN sure made a big deal out of the unassisted triple play which wasn’t anything special IMO considering the fact that both runners were in motion. Francoeur hit a line drive on the nose to Bruntlett who was very fortunate to be in the right spot at the right time. If Manuel doesn’t start the runners, Francoeur has a clean base hit, a run scores and the Mets would’ve been in an excellent position to win the game with two runners on and no outs.

The play pretty much sums up the Mets’ bad luck season (and the Phillies’ good fortune) in 2009.

Incidentally, for those folks who were hoping we'd bring in Oliver Perez last offseason, this game gives him an ERA of 6.82 and a WHIP of 1.92 for the season.

Manuel was probably trying to avoid one of Francoeur's patented rally-killing double play grounders. Instead, he got a triple play.

I'm so happy the Mets have Francoeur and are depending on him as though he's a middle of the lineup hitter. Church has been a great fit for the Braves and instantly improved greatly a lacking lineup. Thank you Mets and Francoeur, you made our day here.

Francoeur is still screwing us over....even as a Met

on the historical side.....that was probably the rarest thing you might ever see in your liftime in baseball.......a game-ending unassisted triple play.........only happened once before in the history of baseball.........
