So how do you think the Braves will go about finding the 3B of the future?
And also; since I'm new on following our farm system could someone please elaborate on his "attitude problem"?

How long has it been since we actually developed a third baseman?

Oops... Was going to put it on the Farm Board, but since it had Braves implications (What we're going to do about 3B) I put it on the Braves Board. My bad.
Still - I'm worried about our 3B of the future.

I think they may be developing a kid named Andy LaRoche. They started by trading for his brother, masher, Adam!

The last 3B the Braves actually developed was Andy Marte. Before him...
Even Chipper doesn't count because he was a SS and would have been a LF had he not tore his ACL in 1994.
As for Campbell, he was suspended at least twice that I recall off hand for having just a bad attitude. I don't know what that manifested itself in or don't remember it, but you have to have a pretty awful attitude to get suspended. He hasn't been that productive, was getting too old with no advancement, and ultimately, it was time to move on. Campbell's defense has never been sparkling and injuries have hurt him as well. Some other team will likely give him a chance, like Kaaihue, who picked up with Oakland.
It's important to point out, though, that it's tough to develop a third baseman because of the arm required, the instincts needed, and the power that is expected. Often, you can't get all three. That's why shortstops who "outgrow" that position are slotted over.

Hmm, are we talking Yunel Escobar, here?

Makes sense, and I hadn't even thought of that.

Sounds like Campbell was itching to get out. (http://www.tristate-media.com/articles/2009/08/18/pdclarion/sports/doc4a8b78ec6734b260507586.txt)
---“The Braves had signed Chipper Jones to a three-year extension. That means I’d have spent three more years in the minor leagues and I didn’t want to do that. I’m certainly not going to move a future Hall of Famer out of a job.
“So Jimmy[his agent] very nicely asked Frank Wren to trade me or release me. He asked Frank not to wait until spring training next year, when it would be hard to land a job with another team.
---“The Phillies called me last December, after the Braves had put me on the Triple-A roster to protect me from the Triple-A draft,” Campbell said.
“They said they were interested in drafting me to the major league level if a trade worked out. I think the trade would have sent Jake Peavy from San Diego to the Cubs. Mark DeRosa would have been involved. The Phillies would have traded Jason Donald, a utility infielder who plays third base, to one of those teams.
“But the trade didn’t go through.”

In January 2006, I attended a winter baseball clinic where Dayton Moore spoke about Campbell's great potential but some within the organization were questioning his maturity, attitude and "make-up." Perhaps, Campbell and the Braves just weren't a good match.

If the Phillies had contacted Campbell while he was property of the Braves, wouldn't that be considered tampering?

I nominate Campbell's story for a creative writing award. It looks like Wren nominates him for a loony award with his release.

Weeeeelllll,
1) Yes that is tampering, so it's fairly obvious that Campbell is tampering with the facts to begin with here,
2) He and his Mom and Dad are *******s, not to mention his sister. The MOST, yes MOST, uncomfortable the host families in Danville ever felt were putting up with those arrogant people at the same time Yunel Escobar (for two weeks) was alienating everyone around him on that team. There were several instances where folks thought the Campbell and Escobar would just implode to make a black hole on the left side.
3) From what I understand Campbell has embellished much along the way, especially his self view. This cut was long overdue, and I know it's certainly not the nice thing to do, but I just can't help but chuckle thinking of the look and excuses of those f'd up parents of his at hearing this news.

I am still hoping that we can get Brandon Wood from the Angels. That guy is a monster and the Angels just don't have a spot for him. Hopefully we don't have to give up too much.
