Welcome! We have some members who were fortunate enough to watch the Braves during their glory days in the 1980s. :) What made you become a Braves fan?

I also cam up watching them in the late 70's through early 80's!
Guess it's why I'm always optimistic, it can't possibly get that bad again!

I got cable TV in 1980 and TBS Superstation had been broadcasting tons of Brave games.
Got hooked watching Murphy & Horner and catching about 150 games on TBS.
I used to go to Dodger Stadium when the Braves were in town. Put on some blue and red war paint on my face and carried a rubber tomahawk (the chop).
Let me tell you, I was pelted by peanuts and hotdog wrappers lots of times...LOL. But, it wasn't Philly so, I only had a few drunks mess with me.
Been through some tough times and rode it out. That 95' WS was sweet!!

I remember those days!
I got cable in 1983, WTBS and WGN were BIG... not to mention MTV and HBO.
I watched a lot of the Cubbies also but although the Braves were not as good as Chicago, The Murph was too good of a show.
Wow, looking back, it could've been really easy to just stick and follow the cubs with Ryan Sandberg, they had some very good teams during those mid 80's.....
Andy, I wouldn't call the 80's the glory days. The Braves were good in 82 and 83, but it was a big test for us to remain faithful between 84 and 90, those were very lowly years. But here I am.

I was just kidding. :D I think it's pretty cool that you guys stayed loyal to the team through such bad years, especially considering that the Braves rewarded you for said loyalty in the 1990s.

If it hadn't been for Dale Murphy....Even I might have found another team. Murph kept the Braves relevant....somehow!

Murphy was one of the reasons I became a Braves fan too. For me, the love affair began during that 13-0 start in 1982.

It was sad to see his career go down so quickly. That staph infection in his knee ruined him IMO.
