Anyone know which rookies are putting up good numbers this year? Especially NL rookies, because Hanson may enter into the ROY picture if he keeps pitching well.

Top Rookie of the Year candidates right now...

The AL picture is dominated by pitching. Oakland's Andrew Bailey (10.2 K/9 and a stranglehold on the saves picture there) and Detroit's Rick Porcello are probably the top two candidates with Bailey's teammate Travis Cahill around if either falters. The hitting picture isn't so hot. Baltimore Nolan Reimold might be the top hitting candidate, but had a late start. Texas's Elvis Andrus has held his own defensively, but his hitting numbers are falling. New York's Brett Gardner plays in the press capital of the world and that can't hurt, though his numbers don't stack up well with the pitchers.

The NL picture is ripe for, well, anyone to step up. Milwaukee's Casey McGehee and Colorado's Seth Smith don't have the at-bats, but are the top hitters. Pittsburgh's Andrew McClutchen has only hit since his callup, but that wasn't that long ago. St. Louis's Colby Rasmus and Colorado's Dexter Fowler do have the at-bats, but their numbers don't jump out at you. My leading candidate right now is Randy Wells.

My guess is that if Hanson can get double digit wins and keep his ERA under 4.00 then he has a good chance, cuz his K numbers should be good i reckon!

Thanks for the info. What chance do you think Hanson has at entering the picture?

He has an extremely good chance of jumping into the picture because this crop of rookies is so poor. Not to say there aren't some good players, but nobody is really pulling away from the crop in either league.

If he makes regular starts until the end of the season and lowers his WHIP and keeps his ERA respectable, he has a great shot at being the Braves first ROY since Furcal.

Kershaw tossed more than double the 50 inning threshold that removes players from being rookies the following year. He picked up 107.2 innings.

i think mccutcheon is the best rook i've seen this year....that is, unless, hanson keeps on winning (although i think he's been the beneficiary of some timely hitting on the braves part.)

I think if hanson could get to 12 wins, 100 K's and an era under 4.30 I would feel pretty good about his chances. It's still really tough to win a full season award in 2/3 of a season. Hitters who did not do great earlier in the year have still acquired certain counting stats and could close the season well and end up with better numbers.

Hanson's resume is already good. IMO he's already the front runner. He's the only pitcher in the Majors to beat the Red Sox and Yankees on consecutive starts.

Being awarded the NL's top rookie for June will help his cause.

Colby Rasmus is right there with him. That walk-off he hit the other night was some nice publicity too.
