It doesn't solve all our problems, but damn is it nice to see this news.

Definitely nice to see. I've given up my past delusions of having a voice worth hearing in terms of all things political, but it doesn't take an extremely knowledgeable citizen to know that finally killing Osama Bin Laden is an awesome thing.

I had to read the headlines a couple times to make sure I was reading it correctly. The Phillies fans reaction was awesome. How about the Navy Seals? The finest military specialists we could ever ask for even took care of him with a head shot. Good riddance!

This is good news and all, but I'm a bit troubled by some of the things I've been reading and seeing on TV. Some people seem to have this delusion that by killing Bin laden that we have stopped Islamic Extremist Terrorism.... Ummm no, in fact, now they have another martyr to rationalize their behavior! I fear a retaliation....

One guy dies, another takes his place..... sad but true

Nobody with a brain - from any political persuasion - thinks that this solves our terrorism problems. It is, however, long-overdue justice.

Agreed. It's not like bam, world peace acheived. But it is good news that someone who galvanized the terrorist world has been taken out.

I totally agree. But man there are a LOT of people who are trying to claim that Obama has saved the world and ended the war in Afghanistan... Do people read?

Obama did a fine job but the Seals are the best. I can picture Osama now walking around hell asking "Where are all the fckng virgins?' We also did a great thing by dumping him in the ocean because if any country would have taken him for a big funeral the grave would have become the rallying point for terrorism.

In fact, most of the opinion I've read from "my side of the aisle" (whatever that really means) has been more along the lines of this (http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/story/index.html?story=/opinion/greenwald/2011/05/02/bin_laden).

While I agree with some of what is said in the article, I still read that kind of thing and immediately think, "Cue up the sad trombone."

Can't believe that writer wanted bin Laden captured instead of killed. What a wimp! He's definitely in the minority.

Osama bin Laden killed thousands of Americans and deserved to die. Holding a trial would've been a media circus and things would've been a lot worse for us when we executed him after a long trial. No, a quick death was the best way to go. For security purposes, we'll probably never know the name of he Navy Seal who wasted OBL but he's got to be feeling pretty good right now.

bin Laden was a bad man! Killing him won't change the course of the war on terror one bit but damn, it feels good to eliminate that SOB. Best decision Obama has made in office by far!

I would have liked to have seen him strangled by his vasa deferentia.

I say give all the Seals a raise. They come through every time for us and deserve more praise than they get. It's a shame this group can't get the fame it deserves, but it's definitely not worth being put in the cross hairs of the rest of these pathetic excuses of human beings.

I'm proud of those Navy Seals. They're based out of Dam Neck in Virginia Beach. I used to go to Dam Neck Beach occasionally as a kid when my parents wanted to avoid the crowds. I'm sure they'd love a raise - many people would probably be surprised by what the average Navy Seal makes in salary. They don't do it for the money, that's for sure.

The Seals are the best. When Luv said that the guy who shot OBL must be feeling really good right now he may be right but the Seals' mentality is that of a total teamwork orientation. To them they all fired that bullet. Latestthing to come out is how OBL grabbed his young wife and tried to use her as a shield from the Seals. Typical.

Also the people who made the great film, "The Hurt Locker" announced they are already working on a film regarding the hunt for and killing of OBL. I hope the underwater creatures had a feast and I am sorry but I don't give a damn about how his body was treated, like the same amount as he cared about the loss of those innocent lives on 9/11.

Two days later, I'm ready to stop talking about it. Any sort of comfort or relief I felt on Sunday has smoothed into a nice hollow feeling. I think I'm mostly getting a little tired of the over-the-top display of pride on television and the internet. It's like, there's a time to take comfort in this sort of thing and I don't think that time extends beyond 48 hours. Now it's time to go back to being grown ups and moving forward. A little dignity wouldn't kill us.

For the record, this isn't in response to anything I've read here.

Not me. I'll never tire of talking about this.

While I'm done talking about small stuff like Roger McDowell's antics in SF, I can't get enough of this story. As someone who casually knew some people killed in the Pentagon on 9/11, I will never forget what bin Laden did that day...and when I heard he was killed, my feeling of elation was off the charts. The feeling was similar to the way I felt in 1995 when the Braves won the World Series - only magnified about 50 times.

For the record, this isn't a response to anything you posted. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. But to me, killing this SOB is a BIG DEAL!

[B]You can't let it go when there are now legislators complaining about the Seals use of Geronimo as a code for bin-Laden. This is what a vet posted at Yahoo;[This is to all the Native American people and everyone else that is misunderstanding what happened here. The United States military is very proud of the long history of service of Native Americans and frequently uses imagery and icons from our shared past. Geronimo is a extremely commonly used term in the Army to refer to bravery and invoke unit and American pride. There are many units in the Army that have native icons and names. The newest and best helicopters all have native names to detonate bravery and power. The Kiowa Warrior, The Blackhawk, The Apache, The Chinook are all names given to our best and most powerful helicopters.
As much as people want to try and divide this country and promote their dividing views, in this situation they are completely wrong. Most Americans that have family in this country for more than two generations have Native blood running in their veins from their ancestors. Although people would look at me and call me and my wife white, my fathers family was part Iroquois and my wife is part Cherokee and our families have been here for hundreds of years..
I served in the Army and I can tell you that any and all naming using native names is done out of respect and honor. Many, many Native Americans have died in the service of this country and have done many heroic things in the service of this country. Please do not misinterpret a naming convention that was probably simply done to acknowledge the seriousness of the operation and try to paint this as anyone being racist or that our military is institutionally racist against Native Americans. It is simply not true, you are grasping at straws and do not understand the deeply woven connections that Native Americans have provided to The United States of America and you are insulting all of us that have served, both that have Native American blood and those that are more recent arrivals.

My apartment is decorated in a way dedicated to the Indian who to me was a heropic figure and the victim of an attempted genocide. But I happen to agree with this vet 100%/B]
