This really is no big deal but will we be able to insert our avatar later?

You should be able to insert it now. Go the the User CP (link at the top left) and click on the avatar section.

Let us know if it isn't working properly.

I tried that but it didn't work. The "Do not use an avatar" button was locked.

But then again, it could've been user error:confused:

Yeah, I'm having the same problem.

Okay, let me look into it.

It didn't work for me earlier either, although it seems to work for me now. After trying a few different things, I inserted my avatar by clicking on the "Quick Links" link at the very top of the page and following the avatar link from there.

Should be working fine now. Give it a try.

It probably didn't work for you until Dream turned on your moderator status. It wasn't enabled for regular users until now.

It's so nice to see this unveiling so smoothly. Very encouraging.

Quick question: have you decided on whether post counts will carry over from the old boards?

luvdembravos

Got it. Thanks guys.

Hobbes

I think we should carry over post counts where reasonable. It's not feasible to do everybody, but maybe the top X number of posters. This way the active members from the old place are obvious at the new one.

I'll have to set aside some time to do that though.

Just food for thought for the advisory board: I had imagined that previous members who sign up could PM an admin to check the old board for their post count in order to have it carry over.

I like that idea, if it isn't too much work for you guys. That way, the people who care can get their counts, and those who don't care can go about their bidness.

The only problem now...as I recently discovered, is that the fine folks at X7 have even found a way to mess up viewing the old site without a domain name pointing to it.

Waiting for their opinion on how to overcome this...

Hobbes

Don's checking into it, but the old database is being so recalcitrant that we might not even be able to get the info. I'd be happy to do it if it turns out to be possible.

In the end, I may have to drag their technical support into a long drawn out process of getting our database accessible by phpMyAdmin so I can dump it and install it elsewhere and pull up a bunch of reports. It'd be great if I could just dump the database to a file.

I know it's possible. The only limitation is time. I don't have a lot of it to spend working on this, and we have other features that would be more useful than this.

I still have access to the board. I can get the numbers from there.

I'll help out with post counts and all as best I can. We didn't have that many active members so it shouldn't be anything like deleting spambots was.

hmm, that was weird. First time I came here, I just hit my normal bookmark link and registered and all of that. When I tried to come back it didn't worj and I had to use a link in a post on the old boards. I gues the url changed after all? ( i re-bookamrked this board anyway just to make sure).

Oh and I guess avatars are enabled, as I couldn't get to work b4 . Oh wait I just read that....duh....

Thanks bravos4evr for the observation! I'll add a redirect later this evening for the old board address, which is www.chopnation.com/bravesboard/ , so that it points to the new URL, which is www.chopnation.com/boards/ .

I saw that I had access again also. I've collected all of the post counts for every member, so I'll update people's totals as they re-register.

Who were The Flying Spaghetti Monster and Dr. Brave on the old board? They appear to be the only two with new handles.

The site looks great. Props to the admins.

Dr. Brave was Kray1000. I don't know who Spaghetti was.

Seems like I remember someone from Texarkana (Spaghetti Monster's location) from the old board. chopchop maybe?

Why yes, it appears you are correct. ChopChop is from Texarkana. Nice memory.

New digs look great! Love the graphics.

I just wanted to make a note that the none of the links in the activation e-mail I got when I registered worked. They all had www.chopnation.com/boards//register.php... The extra / between boards and register is what is causing the problem.

BTW, changed the name from gokartmozart back to FrankEC. Hopefully I'll have more time to post instead of just reading and lurking.

I feel like I'm driving a new car, here. Would you mind hooking me up with some posts, Hobbes? Thank you, sir.

EDIT: Already done before I even made my first post. Somebody's on top of their game, today. Thanks again.

Yeah, I updated a few new folks this morning.

I also added some text for users who changed their screen name over here that shows their former name. It gets shown right under their current names. I'll leave these up for a bit until folks get used to any new screen names.

That is a good idea Hobbes! I kept making letter codes in my head so I could remember ( like chopchop up the spaghetti monster...) I know, I'm a dork!

Hmmm...it works for me, and I can't see anything in the settings that would cause it to not work for all users.

Can somebody else check and see if they can multi-quote? Just click the multi-quote button on each post you want to include and then press the post reply button.

Yeah, the trick is to click the multi-quote function on each post, followed by clicking the post reply feature.

I chose multi-quote, then post reply... I don't think it worked...

ETA: Nope, that should have snagged Dream's post too.

Did you click the multi-quote button on both mine and Dream's individual posts? Because nested quotes don't seem to be possible with this software (maybe possible with an add-on). If you just clicked the multi-quote button on my post it won't pull the Dreamscape quote from my post along with it.

Is there any way to mark topics as read without having to open them? I generally avoid the fantasy and politcal discussions, but they keep showing up on the "new posts page" even if there haven't been any new posts there since my last log-in.

There's a "Mark Forums Read" button near the bottom of the main page and also under quick links, I think. Does that help?

In general, the new posts icon thingy is quirkier than with the old site. It seems like the icon continues to show new posts unless you refresh or something, even though you've already visited the forum in question.

Also, if you double-click on the big red icon next to each forum it will mark all posts read in that forum.
