Good. We get to see our new CF and Glaus goes to the bench, where he needs to stay for about a week and get some rest. Dude looks tired both offensively and defensively.

Think there's any chance the Braves WON'T exercise his club option ($2.5M) this winter. I'd like to lock him up for another 3 years at around $3M-4M per.

Obviously it would be a mistake to let Infante get away....

These last two games we have given away. We pitched the crap out of the baseball the entire series. Honestly I'm not worried about leaving guys on base because eventually we're gonna get those hits to get those runs. But the defense failed us yesterday and today. Melky's was enough said. But today, the first run doesn't score if Jason gets behind the ball and lets it drop. It was a catcher on first base, what's the hit you can't give up? A double. At the very least it should have been runners at 2nd and 3rd. Then Gonzo needs to stay down an extra second on the ground ball. They're major leaguers...they have to make those plays. And we at least get out of that inning with only 1 run and we might get out with no damage at all. Still like how we match up with everybody we're gonna face...we just have to execute better defensively if we're struggling to score runs.

BTW...didn't think Ankiel looked horrible. Hinskie looked absolutely awful the whole weekend. And we gotta get Troy back to mashing again. Here's an idea(opinions wanted): What if we hit Mac 3rd with Chipper and Troy, 4th and 5th?

How do you have 8 free passes(7BB,1HBP) and lose?:furious:

No Prado and no "hot" Glaus and this offense becomes very mediocre, perhaps even below average.

Someone (like Chipper, McCann or Heyward) needs to carry this team on his back the next 2 weeks.

What about getting Matty Diaz some looks at 1B against righties?

Diaz has never hit righties particularly well, though his .206 AVG against them this year is bound to improve. What seems to be the better fit is to move Infante to left and Hinske for a week or so to try to get Glaus some rest and get him jumpstarted because, with the lack of a true bopper to add to the lineup, the Braves will need what they were already living and dying with to produce. It can't all be the Prado, Heyward, and McCann show.

Oh, and our starting 1B's is slugging under .400.

The average, just average, NL 1B slugs .465.

I guess Luke Scott was too expensive. I hope the Orioles were asking for Tommy Hanson, too. Oh, well, they probably were. I have some hope that Wren wanted Scott and because he would have been more than a rental, the Orioles were asking for a ton.

Simple when your team can't hit for power. Like it or not our offense is middle of the pack (by OPS). We lead the NL in team OBP, but are near the bottom in slugging percentage. I don't think there's any question that this lack of power will be our downfall, but it will be interesting to see just how far this team can go.

I think Glaus just needs to sit for a few days and rest.

Diaz is a butcher at first. I'd rather have McCann there than Diaz.

And I'd keep Jones out of the 3 and 4 spots in the lineup, at least until he starts to slug the ball a little.

and the phils win......ok....maybe it's not time to hit the panic button, but i'm pretty sure the "worry" button needs to be stomped on...

On a positive note, the Phillies came down to earth this weekend and their recent streak may have been largely due to their schedule (i.e., opponents just playing poorly at the right time for them).

Half way through their NL East schedule, the Phillies are 15-19 and don't have a winning record against any division rival (they are .500 against the Nats and Marlins). One could say the law of averages are in the Phillies favor and they're likely to reverse that trend but I'm not so sure. Halladay is a beast but the rest of their starters are beatable.

The Braves have the better rotation and bullpen and just need to start getting timely hits because we just don't have anyone in our lineup who can consistently provide a three run dinger.

The NL East race will probably be decided during the last weekend of the season and if so, I'm glad we have the Phillies at home that weekend.

Oh, heck no! There's way too many games remaining.

The Phillies entered the weekend 2.5 games down...3 games were removed from the schedule and their still 2.5 games back. So all things considered, this weekend wasn't a disaster.

I agree with you about our power but we do have good pitching and that can take you a long ways. If the '88 Dodgers could win it all with that offensive lineup, we definitely can. :)
