This is a bit of a farm topic but relates to the Braves club as well. Freddie Freeman is having one heck of a year in AAA for a 20 yr old (or for any age). His .830 OPS ranks 9th in the IL. The youngest guy above him in that ranking is Pedro Alvarez (23) who is now performing very well for the Pirates. No one else above Freddie is under 26 yrs old. That's pretty impressive.

I think he's developed fast enough to now be considered a solid insurance plan if Glaus has to miss extended time. That really covers a big hole in my book. The fact that the reviews on Freddies glove work are very good make it even more reassuring that the Braves have a solid potential solution for a Glaus injury this year.

Freddie's HR power isn't all there yet but at 6'5"/225lbs you have to think it'll come soon enough. Great to see him excelling in AAA at such a young age. Given his age/performance you gotta think his projected ceiling just went up quite a bit this year. If he keeps building on what he's doing he will be the odds on favorite for 1b next year.

I'm with you Gman. Freeman is an exciting prospect. It's really, really nice to see him hitting so well lately.

After a terrible month of May, where he put up an OPS of .667, he exploded in June. His numbers in that month looked like this: .318 AVG, .411 OBP, .511 SLG, .922 OPS. He's continued his hot hitting in July, the only thing that's fallen off a bit between the two months is the rate in which Freeman is being walked. He's going to be a lot of fun to watch at first base in Atlanta.
