Because who wants to do something other than mock it? Prado and McCann have done nothing like the rest of the NL offense. Maybe Infante wasn't a bad choice? Infante as the MVP for the game would be wonderful, amazing, completely ironic and hysterical. I can't believe I'm rooting for Infante. Let's get a run NL All Stars and see how long the game can go into the night and tomorrow.

McCann is awesome and deserves more recognition, that's all.

Biggest NL hit in years comes off the bat of McCann as he hits a bases-clearing 2-out double. Nice.

Dude, I know you hate the commissioner, but the All Star game is fun. And as stupid as it is to have the winning team decide home field advantage for the World Series, the players have been much more competitive since that rule went into place, so the goal is achieved. Even without the rule, though, the All Star game is fun. A lot of us don't want to mock it.

Oh, and Brian McCann is awesome!! The National League, by the way, had seven players from the state of Georgia on the team this year. Wainwright, Capps, and Broxton all pitched scoreless innings. Marlon Byrd scored a run and made a great play to help get the win in the ninth, and Brian McCann won the game for the NL. Brandon Phillips didn't do much, and Heyward obviously didn't get into the game, but I'm positive that having seven Georgians on the roster was the reason the NL won for the first time in thirteen years. They should just have an All Georgia team next year and have them face the best non-Georgia players from both leagues. :)

From the NYT:

The N.L. manager, Charlie Manuel of the Phillies (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/sports/baseball/majorleague/philadelphiaphillies/index.html?inline=nyt-org), has seen plenty of McCann over the years — “Absolutely kills us,” he said — and as he huddled with his coaches, Manuel had a hunch. Thornton has held lefties to a .172 average this season, but his low fastball played to McCann’s strength.

“I said, ‘I hope he keeps the ball down and hard, because this guy can light him up,’ ” Manuel said. “He threw him a low fastball, and he clocked him.”

Enjoyed the game, despite listening to Tim McCarver, seeing Bud "slick" Selig award the MVP, and watching Colbie Caillat breathily exhale "God Bless America" in the 7th.

Oh, and did someone from the Yankees organization die? I thought they said something about that....

Yeah. The owner of the Yankees had a major heart attack... :(

Gotta say I really like Manuel. He used the kind of logic I'd like to see out of a Braves manager.

Yes, George Steinbrenner died, as did the longtime (55 years) stadium announcer for the Yankees, Bob Sheppard.

I have never understood why people like to bash All-Star games in general. I have always thought it was a blast to see all of the sport's best players on one field one night a year. Now the home-field advantage aspect of MLB's All-Star Game is not my favorite idea, but overall I love the All-Star Game and watch it every year.

I did think some of the managerial decisions last night were shaky. The only run the NL allowed was when they put their worst pitcher (Kuo) in the game, and the same goes for the AL, allowing runs with Hughes and Thornton in. Also, Girardi using up his bench so that Ortiz had to run in the 9th was a bad idea.

But overall, the game was fun, like usual.

I was teasing here, guys. ;)

I thought Fox talked about Steinbrenner more than the game itself. You couldn't watch 5 minutes without hearing again--and again--about George.

If TV does one thing well, it's to overdo something.

I've always non-ironically loved the All-Star game. I just love baseball, though.

Have you considered creating some sort of blog about that?

I love McCann! I was thinking about naming my next dog Heyward, but I'm back to McCann. I think he deserves the honor. Heyward will have to wait his turn.

You know, I started thinking about it 3 years ago. I should really put some better thoughts together.
