The Royals dumped Jorge Campillo (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/07/minor-league-transactions-fogg-berroa-campillo.html). Campy had a career year in 2008 with the Braves, but injuries and being replaced by a deeper and better staff had him out of the picture. He had signed on with Braves Midwest and appeared in four games for Omaha.
Also, the Braves lost Jeff Lyman on waivers to the Oakland A's. Not quite sure why Lyman was waived, but Lyman signed after being a second round choice of the Braves in 2005, compensation for the Yankees signing Jaret Wright, and selected two picks after Yunel Escobar. His minor league numbers are nothing to grow attached to. Career WHIP of 1.51 in 498 innings. Had been pitching in Gwinnet for almost the entirety of this year.

Supposedly he was removed from the 40-man roster because the Braves wanted an open slot in the event of a trade or free agent signing.

That's precisely what I thought when I saw the news.
Could be looking at an acquisition....or an eventual return of a person we all forgot about, Luis Valdez.
Anyone know if Valdez is still having visa issues?
That would be awesome. More depth and he's got a chance to be a good reliever in the bigs. I think he's the real deal. I really did forget about him, too.

Elsewhere...MLBTradeRumors is confirming (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/07/braves-agree-to-terms-with-dominican-righthander.html) that the Braves have signed right-hander Mauricio Cabrera out of the Dominican Republic, Atlanta's first big international signing thus far. He's only 16 and will probably be 3 to 4 years away from making a splash at A-ball if he ever does.
AJC also has the story (http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2010/07/03/braves-sign-dominican-pitching-prospect/?cxntfid=blogs_atlanta_braves_blog) with a bit more info. "Cabrera is 6-foot-2 and about 180 pounds, and scouts say he features a curveball, relatively advanced change-up (for a pitcher so young), and a fastball that’s been clocked in the upper-80-mph range."
