Top 4. Tiiiigers leading 4-0. Based juiced. In what has become all too common place this year, with none out, it appears we are in the middle of another Tommy Hanson meltdown.
Edit: Thank god for that double play. Leyland got ejected on it. Now if only Verlander could get tossed too.

The Tigers have been getting the benefit of the doubt on every other call prior to that one. Leyland just wanted to get Gary Cedarstrom involved.

A 2 out 2 run single from Austin Jackson, chases Tommy Hanson whose final line (after jackson was caught stealing) is: 3.2IP, 8h, 6R, 5ER, 4K, 2 BB.
Looking at Tommy's peripheral's, I can't help but wonder if he's not being victimized by bad luck. His flyball ratio is worrisome, and his command has been an issue as well, but the numbers just don't support a 4.50 ERA (well maybe the WHIP does).

Brooks Conrad with a leadoff single to start the bottom of the 4th. This kid (if you can call him that) has been as big of a surprise as anyone this year.

The umpiring has been horrible today.

T-Glaus with a a double drives in Conrad, and gets the Braves on the board. 6-1. 2 runners in scoring position for Escobar, whose days in Atlanta may be numbered.

Check that. Melky was up and a hit a sac fly. 6-2 bad guys.

Escobar draws a 2 out walk. The White guy comes to the plate with a chance for a 2-out RBI. I'd really like to see us push this third run across, to cut the lead in a half.

That's right Lauren. Hanson wasn't near as bad as his line showed. The umpire had a strike zone the size of a postal stamp and Hanson just got frustrated. It seems the umpire was trying to make-up for yesterday's horrible call against the Tigers.

Helluva an AB by The White Guy, for nothing. Nonetheless, Braves score 2 in the inning and do an excellent job to drive up Verlander's pitch count.

...Escobar, whose days in Atlanta may be numbered.
I'll believe that when I see it. I don't see Infante playing short every day.

Well I would hope they would be smart enough to move Escobar they would replace him with someone better than Escobar. Having said that, I agree with you. I don't see any logic in moving him at this point, but from what I've read there appears to be an interest in moving him.

A 2 run homer by Boesch pretty much nails this one down for the Tiiiigers.
-Dr. Brave-

I was yelling "Boesch" after he hit that one. :banghead:
As in, "That was a Boesch route Cabrera took to try to catch that one."

The Braves have hit some rockets today. Need to aim the missiles a little higher, boys.

The Braves answer with 2 runs to make it 8-4.

It's games like these where Medlen would be very valuable in the bullpen.

Fortunately, we don't have games like this very often. He would just rot in the bullpen while Moylan and Saito's arms fall off.

That's the thing I question about Hanson is his mental toughness. If things start going wrong he falls totally apart.

I have to respectfully disagree. Hanson is about as poised for a young pitcher as I've ever seen. He just seems to be having stretches lately where he has trouble locating his pitches.

And the beat marches on. 15 hits now in 6+ innings.

No, he has definitely been having trouble limiting damage and preventing the big inning. That's something that comes with maturity and experience, so I'm not overly concerned with it yet, but he's definitely having a problem avoiding the big inning.

No, he wouldn't. He's been so effective, we can bring him in the 6th and 7th, or use him to give guys like Moylan and Saito time off. I don't feel confident in using Kawakami in those same situations.

Oh well, this is looking like an old-fashioned beat down. Hopefully, seeing Verlander today will be good practice in preparing for Strasburg tomorrow.

I noticed that Lowe's and KK's ERA is now lower than Hanson's. Who would have thought that would be the case this late in the year?

If we're looking at his last two starts, I'd agree. Otherwise I'll let his stats prior to mid-June speak for themselves. He's just in a funk right now.

I agree, but Medlen wouldn't be pitching in a game like this anyway.

Mercifully, this one's over.
Tigers win 10-4. Braves win the series though.

Bobby says Brooks Conrad and Yunel Escobar can both catch in an emergency situation. Source (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100626&content_id=11615788¬ebook_id=11627462&vkey=notebook_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb)

Yeah, I saw that, but I'd be more comfortable with someone who has caught in a major league game before. Diaz and Prado could probably do it too, but hopefully in a 10-4 game and not when we're tied or ahead.
And good luck asking Escobar to catch. He didn't even want to play 2B before we traded away Renteria.

If the Braves needed another catcher they could probably find a Corky Miller type around somewhere without too much trouble. I can't imagine Escobar being upset if he had to catch for part of a game, which is the most he or Conrad would be called upon to do. I wouldn't want to decrease my value by moving from ss to 2B either.

Good point... he's too valuable at short to play anywhere else anyway.
