DOB is an idiot. He worded it that way just to sound like a pretentious arse. Heyward "concedes" his thumb is a problem? Um, maybe he "conceded" it was a problem a long time ago, but neither he nor the team doctors expected the pain to linger this long.

This would explain the extended slump. He hasn't been hitting with much authority recently.

Heyward (and Chipper) should have learned from Jordan Schafer last year. It's hard to hit without hands.

Not a good comparison. It's also hard to hit without a brain, and I'm convinced that Schafer doesn't have one.

HeyWood hurt his hand sliding when stealing second.
If I were a manager, I would fine a player 25,000 for sliding into any base hands-first (with the possible exception of diving back on a pickoff attempt) and I would fine a batter 50,000 for sliding into first on a batted ball.
The latter is easily one of the dumbest moves in baseball--can destroy fingers, hands, shoulders and it isn't any faster. As a former 200m and 400m runner, I learned from several coaches that it is always faster to keep running than to dive, and time-motion studies have proven it. And, even if you did gain a few hundredths, it still isn't worth a dislocated shoulder or a broken hand. :banghead:
