No real reason for this post. I just hated seeing the empty Braves forum.

Go Braves.

I know what you mean...everything looks so naked.

Hopefully a few good game threads can solve that. Hated losing all our old posts, but it only takes a week to erase the nakedness.

Let's go to town posting. These boards are so much better.

Go Braves.

Any way to add more Smilies? I really like them. (Yes, I know I overuse them. At least I don't say LOL.)

You bet. It's totally customizable. We just need to add them. We may want to start a community thread or board for suggested add-ins. It's easy to add them, but finding them can be time consuming for one person.

Go Braves!

Is there any official word on where Hanson is gonna fit in the rotation? Is he the official #5 guy? If so, it looks like he'll only get 2 more starts this month - @ Balt this weekend and vs. Boston at the end of the month.

Good question. I would imagine he will be 5th in the rotation unless there's an injury. Haven't heard any official word on it though.

Hey Rain,
Can you change your name too Mrs. T? I think it has a nice ring to it. Man, it feels good to drop that useless 21 off my name.

Unless Konami is lights out, I believe he'll move up to #4 here very soon.

Didn't Konami pitch in a six man rotation in Japan? Maybe this will help his old arm become more effective.

For quick reply, you have to click one of the "QR" icons at any post in the thread. The box will then allow you to write text.

By the way, go braves.

Nope. It's not. I didn't even think about Giles when I made the name how ever many years ago, but I think this will be my last post as gilley22. I'm gonna go in a new direction.

This place was hard to find. Chopnation.com keeps taking me to the old boards.

Hopefully, by tomorrow afternoon, the old chopnation will stop being accessed via trips to the chopnation url and only this one will come up.

So Dream, how is Medlen a late-bloomer?

Yeah, I don't have my postcount. I registered here...should I have done something different, or do I need to do something in addition?

I think he just meant that he wasn't a starter until late in his minor league career. Most scouting reports have him as a really good reliever and a decent starter in the long term. I've been trying to not get too excited about Medlen for those reasons.

That said, I like him more every time I see him pitch. He's looked better with each outing to me. If he's traded, I hope he's at the center of a package that brings us a new cleanup hitter.

Doesn't have anything to do with being a "late-bloomer" customarily understood, but ok.

Nice to see you Gilley.

I think Medlen has the one untangible that can't really be scouted. He seems to have a short memory! There are tons of guys who "project" to be aces cuz they destroy AAA and come to the show and can't handle the letdown when they go 5 innings and give up 7 their first start. Medlen seems to be able to handle it just fine!

I wouldn't be opposed to trading Vazquez and adding Medlen to the rotation right now! He has " the makeup" to be a top 3 starter IMO. Plus he seems to know how to pitch.

I am partial to hardnosed guys who work their tails off rather than just milk their talent. Medlen , IMO, is one of those guys!

On the charge of late bloomer...

Medlen was never a big prospect, never someone people talked about, until this year. My two most trusted sources on prospect lists (minorleaguebaseball and Baseball Prospectus) didn't look at Medlen favorably coming into this year. John Sickels of minorleaguebaseball ranked him nine (a B- grade) with the line, "Am I overrating him? Looks like he could be a really good swingman." Baseball Propsectus had him "just missing" the top 11.

And there are a few worthwhile reasons. His size (5'10") is small for a pitcher, at least an effective one. True, there have been some small pitchers over the past few years, but generally, they are taller. He's generally considered a reliever, not a starter, which will also bury you in prospect charts. Until the past two years, when the Braves decided to give starting a shot. His numbers were respectable, but not other-worldly, in Mississippi last year and this year with Richmond, his numbers were other-worldly for another world so you knew they would get corrected if he was still there.

Beyond all that...Medlen was drafted in the 10th out of junior college and apparently, was known far more as a shortstop than a pitcher.

But yeah, it's a stretch on the usage of late bloomer when that is typically reserved for the non-prospect age guys who suddenly put it together.
