Gee, I ask a simple question and the guy tells me where to go......:D
Thanks, jlcct. It looks like another number someone "over-thought" on. If they want to get numbers that are so deep they have to consider each pitch in it's own unique circumstance. Sometimes, like bottom of the ninth, bases loaded with no one out, a strike out couldn't be more important. In an effort to just analyze the game to death there are too many variables to make some of these calculations better than other stats. They're all just supposition anyway. It is an interesting theory, I suppose....:headscratch:

Freddy, I linked you to that site because I hoped you would save it as a favorite so when ever you need a quick refresher you could go there. It's a good resource for explaining these stats to you in a thorough fashion. I remember asking what all sorts of stats meant and sometimes I'd forget and I felt bad about asking the same question a second or third time. Here's to hopin I was helpin.

As well as Medlen has thrown tonight, I can understand why Cox waited. I could understand questioning his choice of relievers though, given how Moylan has thrown recently. Medlen only threw 96 pitches.
And the Dodgers weren't exactly crushing the ball either.

Well the Braves have a nine game winning streak to go with their nine game losing streak in April. This is the first time they've won that many in a row since 2000. How long can they keep it going?
Also, it might have been said earlier in the gamethread, but if Raul Ibanez didn't bring Glaus' homerun back from over the fence in the last game of that series, Troy Glaus would have five consecutive games with a homerun. Will he be on the All Star team?
I hope Saito only had cramps tonight. If he does have to go on the DL, I'd expect to see Kimbrel brought back up to the majors. I'm sure we'll see him pitching in Atlanta again this year regardless of any injuries that might happen. During the second half, I expect him to be one of our set-up men.
jamminHANES
06-04-2010, 02:32 AM
If Saito is seriously hurt, Kimbrel will be recalled and there won't be much of a loss in terms of overall bullpen production. Kimbrel has started to figure his control out this year, he's going to be an incredible bullpen arm for years.

Dang, I don't have any friggin fingernails left!!!! I think Saito is gonna be okay, as said before , it looked like cramps.(and I thought he was too old for that anymore.....)
In my non-expert opinion, it looked to me like a cramp or spasm of the hamstring. I don't think he strained it. I think he'll be fine with a few days rest, but may need to be disabled so we have arms available.

If he had really hurt it, I don't think he would have been squatting down and stretching it. More likely he would've done the tell tale grab behind the knee.

Medlen only threw 96 pitches.
We're not talking about a regular starter here. He's a relief pitcher who was brought in to start. 96 pitches was probably his career high, by far.

He has thrown 88, 90, 97, 89, and now 96 pitches in his 5 starts this season. The gametime temperature was 70 degrees (which probably felt cool to him compared to the East Coast), and he didn't have to throw many high-stress innings before the 8th. I still like Cox's decision to send him back out for the 8th inning.

I was watching with Gameday but from what I could tell I liked that he was brought back out as well. Again it's real tough to even comment but judging by what I knew I might have given him a little shorter of a leash. ..What do I care, we won and I still trust Bobby despite his odd bullpen decisions in the past. Medlen did an awesome job and in general I'm happy with the way things went. We have 9 in a row! I couldn't be happier. When we eventually do lose it would be nice if we don't lose three or four in a row. I'm happy with two wins every series so this has been.... nuff said.
