Just saw on BBTN that Ken Griffey Jr has retired. Without out a doubt one of the most exciting players to ever play the game, but it was time. Should definitely be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Thanks for the memories kid and all the Griffey to Atlanta rumors over the years.
Of course now KB is going to have to come up with a new April Fool's joke :p

Junior Griffey was a very fun player. First, he allows me to make my second Little Big League reference because he fell for the Hidden Ball trick. And second, I'll always remember two things with him. That horrific ankle injury on that leap into the wall and scoring the game-winning run in that series against the Yankees. Of course, then came the Reds and becoming more of an albatross because what manager is going to treat Griffey like the bench depth guy he had become?
Truly an amazing player in his time. 630 homers and not one World Series game. Maybe the best player to never play in the Series? Between 1993 and 2001, Junior hit .293 with a .985 OPS (150 OPS+) and 373 HR, or an average of 41 HR a year. He also swiped 115 bases during that time. But those six games in the ALCS against the '95 Indians...the closest he ever got to a ring.

2nd best to never play in a series. Or did Ted Williams play in one?

1946 against the Cardinals. He hit .200 for that series.

I thought I only used that joke once? I didn't try anything this year either. This takes care of the question to new posters about whether or not the Barves should get Griffey. On a more serious note he was one of the huge stars when I started following the Barves and was always a favorite of mine. I hoped he would play in Atlanta but that didn't happen and when it almost happened he was finished.
