View Full Version : Norton to the DL; Canizares called up
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/braves/stories/2009/06/11/braves_norton_injury.html
Norton is down with a strained right ankle. Barbaro Canizares, a 29-year old signed from Cuba, will replace him on the roster.
I've heard a lot about Canizares and I'm sure many of y'all have watched him with the G-Braves where he's hitting .344 with eight homers and 37 driven in.
With Prado at first and Infante on the DL, the Thrashers are significantly short-handed up the middle. Does Bobby stick with Martin for a while or quickly insert Canizares into the lineup?
Knowing Bobby's history, I bet he throws Barbaro to the wolves, but what do y'all think?

I think you're right. Barbaro will probably get the start today.
Edit: Looked at the game thread. He is playing today.

I guess the stress of starting back-to-back games really took its toll on Norton.

...and batting 4th. Interesting. Canizares is certianly not your typical rookie - I'm sure he'll jump right in without the first game jitters.

Sounds like a serious injury...here's hoping the Braves give him at least 4 months to get the ankle properly healed.

One player said this was what he was told about Canizares: “I hear he can’t run, can’t throw and can’t field, but the sumbitch can hit.”

I'm a little surprised that number was available. Has anyone else worn it since?

Perhaps if he does well at this level the Braves can flip him to a team in the DH league.

The Braves confuse the hell out of me. They'll put David Justice in their hall of fame but not Andruw Jones?????

I think it's really telling how much I like Barbaro Canizares. Really goes to show you how times have gotten tough on 1st, when I don't care about a glove and how he can tramp around the bases like a donkey on rollerskates, but the promise of a high average gets me all giddy like a little schoolgirl.

Run him out there. The guy admits being 29 for Gawd's sake, what would they save him for? He's the latest version of Charlie Spikes. Can't field, can't run but allegedly can hit. Right now if he can hit, he's a starter. If he can't you clip him. His time is now.(If he's ever gonna have a time!)

Actually, his time was yesterday. He's been demoted.

Sad what hitting will get you now-a-days.
