Hey guys I drafted this team for a buddy since he couldn't be there. Just wanted to get some feedback. It's a yahoo league head to head.
Catchers-
McCann
Bengie Molina
Matt Weiters
1st-
Derek Lee
Adam Dunn
Mark Teahen
2b-
Rickie Weeks
Placido Polanco
Skip Schumacher
3b-
Evan Longoria
Clint Barmes
SS-
Maicer Izturis(dang I need to get him a backup SS!)
OF-
Adam Dunn
Jason Heyward
Micheal Cuddyer (and of course guys like Teahen and stuff qualify there as well)
SP-
Hudson
Lowe
Strasburg
Ryan-Rowand Smith
Kyle Lohse
RP-
Houston Street
Brad Lidge
Chad Qualls
Matt Thornton(may add/drop him for another starter)
so you think I did him right? I took some chances with Strasburg as I figure him to get called up early on so I prolly need to grab him another starter. But I think I got him a good mix of players as well as 3 good closers so he has some trading chips to boot!
edit: dropped thornton and picked up Joel Piniero

it's just like the keeper leagues on here as far as scoring goes. It's a 12 team league

it isn't a keeper league. And I had the number 8 draft slot( pretty crappy) and half the team got autodrafted cuz I missed the start cuz of work. By the time I got there my hands were kinda tied as the dang pitching went really fast.
Scoring is based on fantasy points earned from the major counting stats as well as WHIP. Hitters earn points from steals, HR's hits ....etc . It's a pretty basic league and not a keeper league.
I got Heyward in the 18th round and Strasburg in the 19th. I also grabbed a bunch of closers (and kinda got a bit carried away with it) so he would have trade options when someone elses closer goes down.
I dunno, I think with Dunn, Lee, Longoria, McCann and Heyward he has a solid core of counting stats fantasy players. The pitching isn't great but since the only saber stat considered is WHIP I think he will be okay.... but maybe Molina aand/or one of his 3 decent closers can net him a better starter come June.

Hudson and Lowe will get him a lot of wins and I think both will sport a good ERA. He'll get a ton of saves, but he can also trade Street to a team in desperate need of a closer like you said. There's always a couple teams that think they need a top notch closer and will be willing to give a decent starter for one, especially if it's a public league and the other managers aren't all that advanced in fantasy baseball. The offense looks fine to me. If Weeks stays healthy and Heyward produces it'll be more than fine. There's a lot of power on that team between McCann, Weeks, Longoria and Dunn. Then there's Weiters who he may be able to trade for a really nice return later in the year. The shortstop position is extremely thin, so if a trade where he packages Street with Weiters later in the season can land him a good shortstop, I think he'd be in pretty good shape. A lot will depend on how he handles free agency and his bench, of course.

I think its ok and nothing more. You are right about needing a SS but where do you see 3 good relievers? Street is on the DL and Lidge sucks.

Yeah, I hate to do it, but I agree with the analysis so far:
1) SP is not competitive - Strasburg is going to miss at least ten starts IF he gets called up as soon as eligible to avoid Super 2. Lowe and Smith suck in terms of K's but should be OK in W's. The WHIP is a grave concern to say the least. Having five starters in a head to head league is also suicide unless you have ratio categories predominating and a small IP minimum to overstock RP studs (which Lidge is certainly not - he's a killer for folks going the ratio route). You've got to cash in on multiposition players to keep from having so many backups at the hitting positions.
1b) Lohse? seriously?
2) SS is a disaster - sorry. There are too many great, good, and decent SS to have to settle for a guy who will struggle to see 550 AB and generate significant offense.
3) Longoria (1st), McCann (2nd), D. Lee (5th), Dunn (5th)....pretty much puts you without 3rd and 4th round talent in my book, especially since you did not have to reach that far up to get Heyward.
4) C is overkill. Granted your autodraft may be to blame here but you have two frontline catchers AND a backup. It's a no-brainer here. Trade Wieters to someone who doesn't recognize that it will take him a month or two just to be good for this year (not a keeper league right?). Meanwhile Mac goes off as usual. Trade Wieters for a SP with a K-rate above 8/9IP
5) Schumacher nor Poloanco provide enough position versatility to warrant being on the backup list. Barmes may be able to cover multiple IF positions - check that out. Then go looking on the waiver wire for something to replace one of those two weak 2B.
6) Hold on to Street - but check for Morales to cover his DL stint to open the season. Also, don't drop Thornton - great K-rate, W potential, and Jenks is just a Big Mac and 5th of Jack from losing the job in CHW.
The team has some nice points, and a little work on the wire and trade routes could get it somewhere.

Figure others can put their team up for feedback here...
Joined a league of James Madison University alums and/or fans with Middle Man. I forgot to prepare for the draft. Either way, this was the team I came away with. 10 team, typical 5 cat, H2H league. Starts 8 position starters with 2 UTIL slots, 2 SP, 2 RP, 4 pitchers, 5 bench slots.
C - Miguel Montero
1B - Joey Votto
2B - Dustin Pedroia
3B - Adrian Beltre
SS - Troy Tulowitzki
OF - Shin-Soo Choo
OF - Carlos Lee
OF - Manny Ramirez
UTIL - Hunter Pence
UTIL - Carlos Gonzalez
Bench - Clint Barmes (2B/SS)
Bench - Chris Davis (1B/3B)
SP - Tim Linecum
SP - Justin Verlander
RP - Brian Wilson
RP - David Aarsdma
P - Jon Lester
P - Josh Beckett
P - Jared Weaver
P - Trevor Hoffman
Bench - Ryan Franklin
Bench - Jorge De La Rosa
Bench - Tim Hudson
Hudson was a semi-sentimental, second to last pick in the draft choice. I could have gone for a low-ranked closer or more positional flexibility, but I decided to give Huddy a shout-out.
Either way, I think I could be weak on the bench in offense, but I think my team was pretty good for a complete lack of preparing. And I get Middle Man in the first week to test the waters.

No offense, but either you fed everyone stupid powder prior to the draft or you and MiddleMan are in the midst of some folks who don't really get a groove on playing fantasy baseball.
Look for a better 3B and find a way to deal Franklin for something useful fast (he's the first closer to go this year if someone shows LaRusa a better talent).
Otherwise, this team should waltz into the semis and probably take it all (Votto keeps all the marbles in the jar, Manny keeps his mouth shut, Aardsma keeps rolling, and Montero picks it back up).

Well since my work schedule is lighter than last year I decided to get my own yahoo public team, that way if I can't finish the season it's no big deal.
Here's the team I drafted for me! ( and no autodraft this time!)
C
Bengie Molina
AJ Pierzynski
1b
Mark Texiera
Adam Laroche
2b
Ian Kinsler
Casey McGehee(2b,3b)
3b
Ryan Zimmerman
SS
Yunel Escobar
Marco Scutero
OF
Adam Lind
Denard Span
Ryan Ludwick
Carlos Quentin
Cody Ross
Utility
Hideki Matsui
SP (this is where I really made out well)
Chris Carpenter
Johan Santana
Cole Hamels
Scott Baker
Jorge De La Rosa
Ryan Rowland-Smith
RP
Chad Qualls
Billy Wagner
I think I did much better this time.....My OF is a tad weak, but my infield is pretty monstrous and my starting pitching is just badass.... may need to move someone for another relief arm tho

Well rochy was available like the 3rd to last pick for me and I was looking for a backup 1st baseman ( it's funny i never EVER draft 1b in the first few rounds asusually you can get darn near the same production in the 5-7th rounds but Tex was just sitting there.... I had to take him in that park and that lineup around him) and Laroche was available.... I reckon that as long as Tex stays healthy Laroche will be there as at worst a good second half trade chip and at best a nice fill in for the days Tex gets off!
as far as closers go, I'm just a hair nervous about not having a backup (my league starts 2 relief pitchers a game) but if it comes to that i should be able to find someone

All I said when I finished reading your team Nick was "Holy Sht." Nice job kid.
I agree with Flo about your team Dream although I do believe that Beltre might be a sleeper this year if healthy.

I agree with Flo that Beltre needs to be upgraded over, however, I'm not so certain you need to be looking too hard outside of your own roster. Get yourself another option, sure....but I think you might get good production out of Chris Davis. He may not be a beast, but I do think he'll provide you a 25-30 HR year in Texas.
Well, hopefully you dropped Chris Davis and picked up Smoak cause I think Chris Davis is done. Two years in a row he got sent to the minors. With Vlad as the DH, Michael Young as the 3b, and Smoak as the 1b... Davis has run himself out of a position. His only hope is to get traded now.

I had dropped Davis for Alberto Callaspo four or five days ago, actually. I also picked up Smoak a day or two ago when I dropped Barmes. Added Colby Rasmus to cover for Manny being out as well. Now, if I can hold off my opponent for the weekend (up 6-3), I'll get my first weekly win with the team I thought would be my best. Slow starts all around have really hurt me.
