Anyone watching the opening ceremonies with me tonight? :) What's your favorite winter event? I really love the winter games and doubles luge cracks me up.

I'm watching it. Who doesn't like Canada?

In the last Winter Olympics I found the short track speed skating to be very compelling. On the opposite end of the spectrum, for some reason I also found myself watching curling...yes, curling.

Curling seems to be gaining popularity. If I recall correctly, it's kinda like shuffleboard on ice with brooms. :D

I love the Olympics! I worked late last night, but recorded the opening ceremonies and watched them this morning.

It was very moving as the Georgia athletes made their entrance into the stadium.

I'm looking forward to speed skating, hockey, snowboarding, and alpine skiing.

Thats right. Everyone loves Canada! I am in Calgary and its absolute madness up here for the games. Vancouver is a GONGSHOW right now. Olympic Mens hockey will be the most watched sporting event ever in this country

My boss and his boss are guests on our client's corporate jet, on their way to Vancouver right now! I wonder what events they'll see -- our admin is being very tight-lipped about the whole thing.

Can I just say that if an event requires music and the winner can be determined by some judge's arbitrary impression of the athlete's artistic interpretation, it's not a sport.

I agree with that. Although, I think skating is viewed more as an athletic competition than a sport. The Olympics are an assortment of athletic competitions and not necessarily sporting events. While skating might not be a sport, it does require significant athletic ability.

Don't get me wrong, figure skaters are tremendous athletes. The strength and balance it must take to pull off a quadruple spin followed immediately by a triple is ridiculous. I'm lucky to stand up and move forward on ice skates. I just question the integrity of any competition where half of the score is based on something as seemingly completely arbitrary as artistic interpretation.

Anybody watch Women's Downhill last night? Lindsey Vonn is a straight up beast. She had an incredible performance (gold medal) on a bump right leg. It was pretty uncomfortable to watch though as three top skiers sustained some pretty horriffic falls. Exciting stuff, but I felt bad for the women that felt, as they all looked pretty freakin' scary.

Yeah, that was a compelling event, and Vonn was impressive. She looked pretty nervous and jittery at the top of the run.

And those crashes were scary. I'm surprised that the one skier who's legs got tangled in the gate wasn't seriously injured.

Man when that German girl lost her balance in mid-air!!! That was just horrific, I'm surprised she wasn't hurt really really bad!

Those broads have serious cajones!!! :-)

No one says "broads" anymore. That term should really make a comeback. :D (Webbie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCUiGArhW2M) tried.)

Most women (if not all) here in New York City consider the term "broads" to be an insult.

Knowing the type of woman it refers to I like it too. I don't know many "great broads" anymore. In times past, there were a lot of women who enjoyed being known that way. They were sorta the equivalent of a "man's man," just the femme version. Like so many old terms, I believe this one has lost it's place. It's probably best left for the old gangster flicks.

I hate that term. I don't know why, but it bothers me.

The Olympics have been fantastic so far. I wouldn't compare them to the excitement of the Summer Olympics, but the competitors have been great! Lindsey Vonn, Shaun White, Shoni Davis, and the rest have pulled off amazing feats.

I'm really looking forward to the USA vs. Canada hockey game tomorrow evening!!!

Hey, one of the women's bobsledders (Elana Meyers) is from my hometown! How bizarre!

If Bernie Madoff was in charge of Enron on Wall Street, and during his time off, he captained the Exxon Valdez...he still would be doing more good than any single member of the IOC.

The corruption of the people who run the olympics makes the people who run baseball seem angelic. Of course you can't really blame the athletes for this, but it sure kills the spirit of any good feelings I could possibly have for the games.
