yea but you have to consider how many teams have already let bruce go. What is interesting is that I am mulling over doing a blog on all the kids that were built up but never made it with us, going back 50 years.

Braves sign Ivan Marin, a shortstop out of Nicaragua, to a minor league deal. Here is the Spanish link (http://www.laprensa.com.ni/2010/02/10/deportes/15761). Via a translator, it apparently was a suprising move as Marin was supposed to be close to signing with St. Louis. Seems to be a slick fielder who admits his offense is a weakness.

We are certainly scooping up the young shortstops. We have had a good history of this in the past so kudos to the international scouting group!

with Edwardo if Escobar is re-signed you have the option of shifting one to 3B if he's ready when Chipper retires after his current contract(which I'd expect)...At his current size and age I'd expect Edward to get shifted cause he should out grow SS by the age of 22 or 23...

The Braves have become pretty good at evaluating ss talent whether it be acquiring the right ss, trading the right ss, or develping the right ss. Hopefully this translates to replacing Chipper, which I didn't think about until H.B. brought up that point in regards to Escobar possibly moving to 3B. It's hard to believe Chipper's 38 years old and won't be around forever. Hopefully he can play 2 more seasons after this and give the prospects time to develop and get ready to replace him. It wouldn't hurt his HOF chances either.

Pretty sure Chipper Jones is a lock at this point. Anyone else know otherwise? :headscratch:

Oh he's a lock, and if he plays out his contract and can have a little protection in the Line up I expect his career line to end up looking like this:
BA: .307 OPS: .950 HR:490-510 RBI: 1650-1800 Hits :2800-3010
from 3rd base thats pretty much the best all around numbers of all time (yes better than Mike Scmidt!!) now when you figure in defense they are pretty close!

I think even if Chipper plays another three years and hits .100 he will still make the hall.

I'd hope Chipper would be a lock at this point but Bert Blyleven proves HOF voters can be a bit crazy and I'd like to see Chipper's stats padded a little more. I was looking at how close he could come to being a 3000 hit/500 HR player. He needs roughly 600 hits and 75 HR. His recent seasons suggest averaging 150 hits and 25 HR per seasons if things go reasonably well and he regains a bit more power. Assuming 3 more seasons he would end up with 2850 hits and 500 HR. We could have some real excitement seeing if he can reach 500 HR or not since it could be really close.
Not sure if this was already posted but if not it's a good read for those who are agonizing over the injury risks of Hudson, Glaus, Wagner, and Saito. ESPN on Braves Risks (http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/baseball/flb/story?page=mlbdk2k10bravesinjuries).

That's an interesting article. It confirms some of my vague, unscientific feelings prior to reading it. I'm not particularly concerned about the elbows of Wagner or Hudson. I have doubts about whether Glaus and Saito will pay off though.

I had thought the article was surprisingly detailed on the nature of the surgery these players underwent. It wasn't until the end that I saw it was a doctor writing it. It's an interesting slant for a baseball article.

I especially like the aspect of the risks we have chosen to take with Hudson and Wagner when consideration is given to the fact that both did their rehab last season and returned to the league as productive players last year. It's not like these guys just came off injury. They proved they still had it last season.
As for Glaus, all we can do is watch and see if he displays much power in spring training. He seems to be wolfing up on the spring pitching, so here's hoping the guy is fully recovered and displays some of that macho power for about 30 homers.

Chipper has a very real chance of becoming the all-time leader in RBI for 3rd baseman. Chipper has 1,445 (4th) while Mike Schmidt is the leader at 1,595.

Barring a career-ending injury, he has way more than a chance. He'll easily surpass Schmidt.

I've got 10 bucks that says Martin Prado doesn't post an .800 ops or greater this year.
I'll take that bet.
Somebody owes me ten bucks. :D

Haha, seriously, it'd be a tough call. He could easily end up in the .780 range if his BABIP takes a hit and his walk rate doesn't go up.
