It's Do or Die Time.
Whether you agree or not, the season is winding down and we can't afford to lose three out of four again. We must take this series, which means we must win today.
Go Braves.

Is it too late for the Braves to buy life insurance?

.278 batting average for Chipper feels a lot like .230 for Andruw.

MattE starts things with a single. Three outs later, he's still at first.
Yay!

Well, Lowe got two before Utley makes it 1-0.
Man, football season is getting close.

LaRoche doubles, but Old Man Gandy, who singled with one out, couldn't score. Gotta tie this game up now, Mr. Gorecki, aka Mr. AAAA.

...great. Dummy K's.

Even Lowe managed to hit a fly ball on the same pitch that struck out Gorecki.

Hit the pitcher next, Lowe. The season is spiraling out of control. May as well make it fun.

I remember when Chipper used to be good too.

Derek Lowe has lost 3 pounds since the game started.
45 pitches in the first two innings.
-Dr. Brave-
08-29-2009, 08:24 PM
Derek Lowe fields a comebacker and misses the diminutive Adam LaRoche by 10 feet.

Anderson smacks a 3-run homer. Braves lead! Braves lead! Braves lead!!

MattE with a 2-run homer. 5-1 Braves!

Infante playing 2B, Prado shifts to 1B, LaRoche out of the game with some type of right leg injury.

Cliff Lee sucks.
That thought crossed my mind too, but I'm too superstitious to actually say it even in joking. I haven't forgotten that 10-3 lead we blew earlier this year to the Phillies.
I'm surprised the Philly fans aren't booing him.
-Dr. Brave-

Was that a 1-2-3 inning the Braves actually pulled off?

The Braves are giving the Phillies a taste of their own medicine.
Escobar's homer makes it 6-1.

Ryan Howard, wanting to be an umpire after his playing days are over, helps the umpires call a balk on Lowe.
Call yourself out on strikes, Mr. Howard.

Chad Durbin replaces Cliff Lee.

LaRoche's injury is being called an aggravation of a hamstring.

Prado's single drives in Gorecki to make it 7-1.

Chipper hits a moon shot to center to make it 9-1.

Lowe is removed after throwing 112 pitches.
He slips as he's stepping off the mound over his own moat of sweat.

Believe it or not, Peter Moylan is in.
His 72nd appearance extends his major-league lead.
-Dr. Brave-
08-29-2009, 09:57 PM
On to the 7th, Moylan stays in, but he gives up singles to the first three batters to load the bases.

Gonzalez comes in on a double-switch, as Cox removes Infante and brings in Kelly Johnson. Gonzalez in for his 65th game, so the top two guys in appearances for the Braves are the ones coming off Tommy John surgery.
Gonzalez made Ryan Howard look bad on three pitches.
-Dr. Brave-
08-29-2009, 10:06 PM
Gonzalez was sharp, escaping a bases-loaded, nobody out jam to keep the score at 9-1.
-Dr. Brave-
08-29-2009, 10:11 PM
Kelly Johnson flies out to lead off the 8th.
0 for his last 18.
-Dr. Brave-

Not that anybody gives a $hit, but...
Rain delay, middle of the 8th, Braves leading 9-1.

The Braves seriously need to get some different alternative programming.

Game called due to rain.
Braves now 7 games behind the Phillies.

I just got back from the game. We were sitting near some particularly difficult fans who were really giving me a hard time for being a Braves fan. So it was nice to put a beat-down on the Phils. Lots of grumpy Phillies fans tonight, and the rain didn't improve their mood. I knew the game would be called because it was a torrential downpour at the park and it wasn't letting up.

LaRoche's injury is being called an aggravation of a hamstring.
The word now is that LaRoche has a strained hip that limits his lateral movement.

I hope he can work through it but it doesn't sound too encouraging.
No Adam LaRoche and an ineffective Chipper doesn't bode well for the September playoff run. :(

Indeed. Methinks it's going to be more like a September jog.
