I'll be at tomorrow's game. Unfortunately I get the Lowe-Lee matchup. Hopefully the good Derek Lowe shows up.

that's exactly what we need. The braves have been playing pretty well lately, with the exceptionof the first two SD games I guess, but playing pretty well won't get us in the playoffs at this point. And the fish series is 4 games so we need 7 in a row, AB. A 7 game road sweep - that would put us right in the middle of things.

It would be something. No question the Braves need a big run and need to start crushing the souls of the rest of the NL East. The potential is definitely there but how many times has that been said about a team? A lot more than the number of times a team crushes the rest of the opposition down the stretch.

He sure can. BTW, tonight's Mega Millions lottery has an estimated jackpot of $333 million.

There you go! Eight in a row! That's what we need. The league will then fear us.

There was a good Horacio. Crazy things happen which reminds me, Pete Orr used to play or the Braves. I'll have to look into where he ended up sometime.

No need playing guys, I bought the winning ticket this morning in WINder, Georgia.
I think they'd be sitting pretty if they took 5 out of the next 7. They have to win 4. Anything over 4 and we could see the braves get on a nice roll in September. Chipper's bat is a powder keg ready to go off on a whole lot of pitchers and Huddy has the goods to provide one huge spark to this team. I think this is going to be a really fun team to watch in september. They just need 4-5 guys to provide some sparks. Hot streaks aren't reserved for all-star studs. Everyone in the lineup is capable of putting up great numbers in a short stretch. They've all had one month runs where they set the world on fire. No reason they can't do it this september.

The Braves can't settle for 4 of 7 anymore. They can't settle to be good. They have to be great, worldbeaters. They need an amazing run to get off the ground to even have hope, let alone make it to the playoffs. Every win by the Phils, by the Marlins, by the Rockies, by the Giants is one more nail in the coffin that is the 2009 season. It's no longer okay to be a good team. Catching the Phillies would take an act of God. Catching the Rockies and Giants is becoming increasingly tough, even though both teams are quite flawed, but so are the Braves.
I would say the key to this team isn't Chipper, but Nate McLouth and Martin Prado. When those two, especially the latter, were hitting, this team was beating everyone. Now, McLouth is out and Prado is struggling and suddenly, the Braves seem like an above-average club, but a click short of being a true contender. If the offense in front of Chipper doesn't hit, it's not going to matter what Chipper does.

Yep. Good would have been nice in April or May. It's too late for good.

Hey, love the enthusiasm Gman but Chipper looks more like a guy waiting to go off on Social Security and Huddy's a virtual unknown piece at this point. I do hope the team can come up with something to get them on a winning streak, though. Chipper's folded about as quickly in the 2009 season as he always did in my old MVP 2005 game. Dude hit his late 30's and he was done.....

He was in his late 30s last year. I'm not gonna say that he may not be finished, but I'm NOT going to call him done due to one bad season, especially after a string of dynamite seasons that he put up preceding this one.

Only 3 1/2 games out (3 in the loss column) for the wild card.
With a month to go, it ain't over yet!

Amen to that. Chipper's far from done and his season is far from over. He got into some bad habits pulling his body out to protect the oblique he tweaked in June and again in early August. It looked like it mostly affected him when he was swinging lefthanded. If he gets completely over it he will have a huge month. If not he'll probably adjust and just be better than most but not the complete offensive force he can be. Either way, I think it's more important just to have him in the lineup even when he's at 75% because 75% of Chipper is still way better than any other option they have (and he knows it).

I think I heard it a few days ago on Sports South but they said that of all people who has played in the most games this year...it's Chipper Jones. I bet none of us would have believed that at the start of the season.

Part of me wonders if that the rest Chipper had been getting over the course of the past few years didn't benefit him and enable him to maintain his high level of production.

I see a typo.
You forgot the 314 games Gregory Norton has appeared in.

gotta be honest here....I was surprised that Chipper had played in this many games. Other than Lauren, I'm probably his harshest critic, because I just don't think old players, for the most part, can be both healthy and good.

Since we have Chip for his three year extension, I would have him play in 120 games, max. Let Infante sub about 1 in three games for him. Chip fresh is still a threat; Chip worn out, not so much....
Also, when are we going to pay Maddog to be our roving pitching instructor? How nice would Doggie's cut fastball be, thrown by our righties, against our Philly friend Howard and his left handed compadres?

And to clarify, I dislike Chipper as a human being...but I do recognize his skill and what he brings to the team. I just don't root for him and I'd be quite happy if I never heard his name again.

I don't care to rehash. He is a bad man. That doesn't stop him from performing well on the field, but he is not a player I would want my theoretical child to idolize.

1. He has a delightfully plump bottom that I wouldn't mind squeezing. Chipper is nasty. 2. He hasn't personally offended my family. ;)
