View Full Version : Guitar Hero World Tour or Rock Band???
It has been a LOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGG time since I've owned a gaming system, but the wife, dear sweet woman that she is, has requested that we buy a Wii for the little demonic rugrats that inhabit our humble abode, and what the wifey wants, the wifey typically gets.
I have never been big on video games and will personally only be interested in Tiger Woods Golf, MLB games, NFL games and the music games, and I've been w/o all for so long that it doesn't much matter to me any more. I did see an offer yesterday where if you preorder the Guitar Hero V game, that they will send you the unreleased Van Halen Guitar Hero game free, and I'm a sucker for old Van Halen, but before I make a bad choice, I figured I'd find out what people might think who may have played either or both games (Guitar Hero World Tour & or Rock Band).
I already know the Xbox & or PS3 (or PS2) have better games available and graphics, etc..., but there is no debating on what console we will get. The kids are young and like the Wii's simplicity, and the wife has it in her head already that's what she wants to get them, thus Nintendo will get my money, but any opinions on the band games would be welcome.
Thanks - Old, Fat & Slow

Honestly, I think this decision is pretty simple. Go online and research the set lists on both games (gamespot.com) and look at which music you like better. The games are pretty similar in nature, but what I've found is that there is a pretty good swing from year to year as to which game has the better music, at least IMO. For instance, I think Guitar Hero 5 is going to blow, just because I haven't heard of half the bands on the set list. What makes these games fun is the music, so look at the music on each, and use that to base your decision.

We just bought a PS3 last night and I couldn't resist buying Rock Band 2 to go with it. It is so much fun!!! The drum set is a blast!
We also bought the games:
Call of Duty 4
MLB 09: The Show
The Godfather II
FIFA Soccer 09
Gran Turismo 5
The graphics on the PS3 are amazing hooked up to our HD TV. If I would have known how big of a difference it was before, I would have bought one a lot sooner.

Wahoo's suggestion to check out the set list is a great suggestion. The only gaming system I own is an 8-bit classic Nintendo (still works, heh heh), but my friends have just about any game on any system I'd want to play. Rock Band is far more popular for group gatherings, and Guitar Hero is more popular for the people who play alone more often. If you're planning on using the game for family time, I'd recommend Rock Band. :)

As if having Rock Band 2 wasn't enough, we bought The Beatles: Rock Band last night. Very cool!

To add to Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band, I bought Lego Rock Band last night. Sounds silly, I know, but it has a lot of great songs that the others didn't have and the songs can be transferred to Rock Band 2 so you don't have to play with Lego people everywhere. LOL
