Sorry, I was camped out in today's other gamethread, about to post the cure for syphilis. Oh well.
Good to see the Braves answer the Mets' 8-run inning with one of their own.

In case you were wondering:
The biggest deficit overcome to win a major league game is 11 runs.
On August 5th, 2001, Cleveland overcame a second-inning deficit of 11-0 to beat Seattle 15-14 in 11 innings.

Chipper still the Braves only non-pitcher without a hit in today's game.
Slacker.

I don't think I've ever heard a New York crowd so quiet.

Mets fan Reid Gorecki in for Garret Anderson, making his major league debut.
EDIT: Technically not his major league debut, but I'm blocking out everything that happened in last night's game.

He still refuses to join in the fun.
Chipper's not quite there yet, but he's close to being the best infielder on the left side of the Braves infield.

Breaking news from Tom Brokenjaw:
Mike Hampton's 2009 season is over with a torn rotator cuff.
Now back to the game.
Quick edit:
It's partially torn and he does hope to pitch again this season.

LaRoche launches his 19th of the season, and Matt Diaz follows with one of his own. 14-2 Braves.
With 6% of the precincts reporting, I'm giving this game to Atlanta.

It's hard to believe the Braves have the most homers in the NL since the break.

He already played in last night's game.
Then he'll be getting his first major league plate appearance.
Glad to see the Braves whip this sad-ass Mets team.

This what they should've done last night. I guess we can pencil in the series openers as losses on the road. I understood it in San Diego and I accepted blowing the L.A. opener, but last night was pathetic. Bet they don't plate 15 tomorrow against Santana...

Really? I'd say if we are overreacting to a random number that means nothing, we should schedule only 60% of the opening game of a road series as a loss since the Braves are 8-12 in such situations.
But if we force extra innings on the road, we are 4-2! We've just never been able to go to extras in the opening game of a road series. So, if we force extra innings in the opening game of the series, in which we win 40% of the games anyway, and we win 66% of extra innings games on the road...we will have a 53% chance of winning, right?
It's a whole new ballgame.

Who's overreacting to any random number, Dream? I'm not looking at the entire season here, just the most recent flops. I understood the loss at SD. It was a quick turn-around on short rest after the cross country flight. I expected them to be worn out and they were. They blew the LA opener. Hey, it happens! The three following wins were gigantic. They did Philly in 2008 style when they needed the series. Blowing up the first Mets game hurt. It was similar to the LA bust because both were very winnable. These aren't ratios or statistical comparisons, just what I saw and my thoughts on the games. Since when does one's opinion on games need "correcting?" All the comparative stats you tossed up didn't size up the two we had and let slip away here in crunch time. If the team falls a game or two short, those will haunt many of us.

I was more or less kidding about a number that barely makes any sense, hence making it so outrageous. Nevertheless, you said we could pencil the road openers for the series as a loss based on three openers. Prompted me to look it up to see if that was an actual weird problem or three random games in a long, long season. Seems like the later. They won't haunt me. 36-40 over the first three months will.

and when you think about the 7-1 start it make's the 1st 3 months even worse...

But for the first three months they were pretty much playing as I expected. Since they started concentrating on using the abilities the team has and have turned things around, games like the aforementioned stick in my craw a bit. Hey, I bet we're on the same page in this regard - at least we're still in the hunt! I never would've guessed they'd turn it around back in June. Since they've focused on doing the little things they're capable of, they've become a rather formidible foe.
(Remind anyone else of the '91 club just a bit?)
