He's also one of only two players to go 1-for-4 with a homer and a walk four days after getting hit by a pitch, the other being Hank Aaron. So obviously he is a stud.

Jesus Christ, Joe Morgan... do you ever talk about anything new?
...all I hear him talking about is how Billingsley is a power pitcher and his 'power curveball is different from Kershaw's curveball'.

Adam LaRoche is bunking up at Chipper’s house for now, apparently has a “wing” to himself. …Says LaRoche “I could live there and he would never see me.” Told Chipper that and he got a chuckle. Says it’s been fun to have LaRoche around. They went to dinner last night and played a little poker.
Not surprising. ;)

Joe Morgan is so stupid.
:banghead:
He talks about how unique Billingsley's curveball is because of how it starts in the strike zone and it drops out... don't most curve balls do that?

If he hangs a curve that McLouth doubles on, Morgan would respond: "He went to the curve too much there. He had him set up for a fastball."
Why not say...McLouth hit a good pitch on the outside corner and drove it. Which you also said.
Damn you, Morgan.

I HATE that we play like this! When we start off not hitting, it just means we're gonna GIVE the other team's pitching (doesn't matter who they trot out) a 4 or 5 hitter. It's so HARD to believe!
I'm still watching, but when you add our frustrating plate appearances to Morgan and Miller and Phillips, I'm ... well ... :banghead: :furious: :hissyfit:

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I'm not giving up hope yet. If we put our minds to it, we can still win this game.
Fail. 105 games in to the season and we're just a game over .500. In other words, time is wasting and things aren't looking favorable. Regardless of being just a few games out of the Wild Card (the NL East race is over), you've got to put some distance between yourself and .500 to be considered a playoff-caliber team--the Braves haven't been able to do it.
Andy G.
08-03-2009, 02:18 AM
I understand where you're coming from sdp, but it's not difficult to change that. The Braves have the pitching to go on a winning streak at any time. Every playoff team has a really good streak or two during the year, and with the rotation the Braves have, it's not hard to believe they'll have theirs pretty soon. With more than a third of the season left to be played, it's not even unlikely. They could go from a game over .500 to ten games over in just two weeks. Fans get antsy in August, but as of right now, there's a lot of baseball to be played. I like our team.
I want to see Heyward called up. He can platoon with Diaz in right. He would see plenty of at bats and could give us a huge boost offensively if he hits at all like the way he's hitting in Mississippi.

Sorry Andy, but I think I've reverted back to my earlier stance. The only way I can see our pitching staff pitching us into contention is in a wildest dream scenario. You see how the Dodgers can play and you just know eventually they'll get a 3 run bomb from someone. When the Braves get a three run bomb it's "STOP THE PRESSES!"
Morgan and Miller absolutely suck. Even before I heard Miller say that Kemp was the Dodgers best pure hitter, I wanted to beat the @#!* outta him. What? All of a sudden Manny doesn't count, Little Joe? I guess it would kill those 'stards to say something complimentary about the Braves.

They repeatily talked up Jair Jurrjens, spoke of Chipper Jones as if he was still this huge masher, how Brian McCann is the best hitting catcher in the majors, how great Yunel Escobar is...
I mean, there is a lot to complain about with the ESPN crew, but playing favorites isn't one of them.

I get so tired of hearing Joe Morgan reliving his war stories...take him out of the booth and the Sunday night ESPN crew wouldn't be so bad.
..and not that Yunel Escobar would've made a difference last night but with the exception of McCann, he may be our best offensive weapon. There's no way he should be traded by this team in the next few years. Keep Escobar, McCann and Chipper but the rest of the postition players are trade bait as far as I'm concerned.

I don't mind Morgan nearly as much as Miller. I think it's Miller's constant mispronunciation of players' names -- why won't someone correct him? Or if they have and he's ignoring their critique, why allow him on the air? Mainstream media is supposed to at least attempt to be accurate, yet we heard him accent the wrong half of Jurrjens' name all night.
...At least he wasn't calling him Jurrgens all night, like some people do. It's not Jergens!

What I heard wasn't "repeatedly." It was more like sporadically.
As for Miller and his ridiculous enuciations, he may be trying to match Vin Scully, the most over-rated talker of 'em all. I can still hear him droning on in a game so many years ago.....the Pirates had a big lefty pitcher named John Candelaria. Scully must've pronounced Candelaria twelve different ways. It was pronounced as it appears "Can-del-area." Scully emphasized each syllable at different times as well as pronouncing the vowels differently as often as he could. Almost made me yearn to hear Harry Carey butchering some of those old Cub names. At least that was funny!
