Even with the move, did anyone else "feel" the Braves season slip away with those two losses to the Marlins? I had a feeling they'd roll in there and roll over. The Marlins seem to be able to pee on our picnic at will. I expected Uggla to tee off as well as the team. It's difficult to grasp how the Braves pitching can be so susceptible to so many free swingers. I guess they are intimidated by their "aggressiveness," huh? Maybe this is what Cox wants from his hackers. I need to see the Braves take this series from the Dodgers or I think I'll figure they are done.
Anyone else figuring Kenshin-san is the odd man out when Huddy returns? Even though he's pitched pretty well most of the time I have about as much confidence in him as I do in Gonzo. I was hoping to see that Gonzo had been dealt.....
(Did anyone else note the late lineup change last night putting Escy on the bench and wonder if he was being dealt? He's been their best clutch bat! I hope he stays for a long time, attitude or not. I'm what most call old school, but this team needs some 'tude! The robotic antics have run their course. I want to see some enthusiasm again!)

Esco had to leave because he was hit on the wrist. I doubt many thought it was because he was being dealt.

If it weren't for a rare blown save from Soriano the Braves would have won the series in Florida and everything would still be looking great for us. I admit it's tough to be sitting one game back from the Marlins right now, but they aren't going to stick around through August and September. They've allowed more runs than they've scored this year. To me, they're lucky to even be in contention. The Braves have the pitching to do some damage and their offense has been scoring plenty of runs.

Also, Escobar left the game last night after his first at bat when he was hit on the wrist with a pitch. X-Rays were negative, I think.

With two months (~60 games) remaining, I'm not writing this team off, especially considering the way they've played since the all star break.

Anything can happen.

With the Phillies getting Lee and not giving up much in return... I was more than frustrated with the Blue Jays GM. I was very much hoping that they would trade away their future like we did back in 07 with Teix.

With that being said, I think our chances of getting a NL east title is done. I have hopes of a wild card though. I really hope Hudson can come in and actually let Hanson take a break as I think we're pitching him too much too early, and also Kenshi too. With those three pitchers together I feel we can get the equivalent of 2 aces worth of work. I just don't want Hanson overpitching during his rookie year.

I felt our chances at any kind of playoff spot slip away at the end of June when we didn't capitalize on anyone playing like poo.

Why would they when they can just point to the Braves as a cautionary tale? Other GMs have learned from us.

I noticed that too Gilley, but we thought they'd be gone by now, and here it is August 1st and they are still here. Baseball is a funny game, sometimes you see fluke crap like this. I remember back a few years ago when the Gnats were winning so many games under Frank Robinson, and they had the exact same scenario where they were allowing more runs than they scored, and it was so frustrating to watch a clearly mediocre team have lucky constantly benefit them. Ultimately, though, I think they will fade, just like the Gnats did. Our problem, however, isn't the Marlins. It's the Rockies, Giants, Cubs, and Astros. That much competition is going to make it difficult to get a playoff spot, especially when we have no consistency at the plate.

well.....somebody is going to win the Wild Card and all those other teams piled up with the Braves are in the same spot we are. We might as well come out ahead as them. I'm sure some of their fans say the same thing about their chances.

I didn't get to see the game on tv, I had to listen on radio. The reason I was worried about Escy is because on radio, he was the announced starter and seemed to be starting right up until they noticed he wasn't. Many times a guy being traded disappears from the lineup at gametime. Glad that wasn't the case.
Great game today beating the Dodgers! I believe Rochey had a walk, a coupla hits and a couple of fine plays around the bag. Good to see him step right in and get it going! Also, Andy G, you make a good point about the pitching. When you have a staff performing as well as Atlanta's and some help coming in from injury you have to like the chances. Particularly if Cox uses Medlen, Logan and Acosta more often and gives the main guys a break. He'll pitch those"big four" relievers until their wings fall off!
