View Full Version : I am beginning to wonder

I was born and bred in NYC and believe me I am not a prude. In fact my politics as you know is left leaning but I am beginning to wonder;
1) Sarah Palin's daughter gets pregnant at the age of 15 and they pose her and her boyfriend as a couple who will get married. Then she gives birth at age 16, he is out of the picture, and not a word of criticism out there about this.
2) Steve McNair is murdered, while asleep, by his 20 year old girlfriend while his wife and four sons are sitting at home. Again no comment at all other than he is a legend.
I am starting to wonder if the world hasn't turned upside down.

If the world had turned upside down, wouldn't the water in my toilet spin in the opposite direction?

I don't know where you're getting your information, Rap, but I've not met anyone who is happy with the Palin grandbaby situation nor anyone who thinks McNair is blameless.

Just watching TV and that's the impression I get. But look at it this way; Palin isn't the popular one she was even among the right wing but Lavelle still has her pic up for his avatar. Also everything I saw regarding McNair gave me the impression as well. The young girl he was with was obviously very troubled and it is a real tragedy. However it doesn't excuse what McNair was doing.

This thread is a total waste of time. These topics are being discussed, ad naseum, elsewhere. This thread brings nothing of value to the board.

Yeah, when I first read it I was trying to figure out how to salvage it. It could just become a "I am beginning to wonder..." thread. Everyone fills in the blank, you know?
I'll go first.
I am beginning to wonder if Geico has hired third graders to produce their commercials.

I'm beginning to wonder if you are being too generous in your assessment of their advertising team.
Everytime I see that stack of bills with the plastic eyes I want to throw something at the TV.

I really liked the first caveman commercials, but I agree, this latest round with the stack of cash is just unbearable at times.
I am beginning to wonder if, in ten years, anyone will remember when we used to spell "prolly" p-r-o-b-a-b-l-y.

Commericials that make me laugh: (1) E-trade baby commercials (2) the Slowskis on COMCAST and (3) the old GEICO caveman commericals which BTW were much better than the lame spin-off comedy show which was anything but funny.

Best GEICO commercial was the squirrels in the road high-fiving after causing a wreck. Now that's comedy gold.

Never seen the Slowskis, but I agree entirely about the other two. That one where the babies are laughing at the one kid for investing with a friend of his father is classic.

That's a good one...all of them make me laugh especially the "bad girl - can I hit you back" and the one when the baby throws up after making a trade.
Guess I'm just a juvenile at heart :)

I like the eTrade baby too. I like the one you mention and the one where he calls his golf partner "shankopotamus".
The Slowskis are pretty good. They are part of a campaign for Comcast, so you wouldn't see them if you have a different local provider.

Good god I hate the baby commercials! It's just lowest common denominator comedy.... it's not that smart, it's like making a dick joke or something... boooooooooooo

I generally agree. Most of the time I just cringe (like I do with talking animal commercials). But somehow the eTrade commercials strike me differently.

I'm beginning to wonder how anyone can disagree that Kate Beckinsale and Naomi Watts are the two hottest babes in Hollywood.

I'm also beginning to wonder what moves properly functioning, non-deformed people to get massive amounts of plastic surgery. Perhaps some kind of mental imbalance.

Agreed on Naomi Watts.
Beckinsale is beautiful too, but the implants knock off points to me.

I think it is a mental thing. If Michael Jackson had stopped after his first round of changes, keeping himself at that look he had when Thriller came out, he wouldn't have wound up looking so creepy.

I didn't know she had implants! She's out. I have a hard time finding a woman attractive if she has implants.
With Kate now dethroned, I hereby announce the two Hollywood women who will battle for her vacated spot: Rachel McAdams and (skinny) Jennifer Love Hewitt. The battle shall take the form of the two standing naked in front of me, for a duration of my choosing, after which a decision will be made.

I'd say the odds of that happening are about the same as the same people realizing that there is no such word as "supposably."

The ETrade babies are hysterical and one of the best I have ever seen. When it comes to Michael Jackson let's at least take into consideration that something happened to his face at one poiint when his head caught fire.

And they can "conversate" with someone of a superior intellect.
P.S.: This one is the most frustrating because that non-word has actually made it into the dictionary. Seriously, can't we just make these morons use the correct word (converse)?

I'm beginning to wonder who got peanut butter in my chocolate.
Also, one of my favorite tv commercials of all time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnQMq5wtZcg). This originally aired during the Super Bowl about 10 years ago.
I am a sucker for the monkey commercials. If you haven't seen the Trunk Monkey commercials yet, I highly recommend them.
Of the current commercials, I like this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G7bGBUlx2M) for Travelers' Insurance. Cute and sweet at the same time.

No, it's their job to get the highest ratings possible for their network. Was it "newsworthy" for the Today show to interview Levi Johnston? I'm not a fan of Palin at all, but who gives a crap what Levi Johnston thinks about Sarah Palin's decision to resign? The only thing that douche has ever accomplished is the ability to reproduce.

I'm as big a critic of the news media as there is, but to be fair, the Today Show is not a news program. It's more of a human interest program, where they show whatever segements they feel will grab the viewer's interest.
Annoyingly, that kind of sordid nonsense is exactly what grabs viewers' interest.

I partially agree with you, however the first 30 to 45 minutes of the Today show is what I would consider a news program, which was when they interviewed that kid. If they had done it in the 9:00 hour after the "how to liven up leftovers" segment, that's one thing.
