I haven't watched too many TV shows before since I only like to watch it when I get to watch every episode since the beginning, but I'm starting to become fans of more and more TV shows now and am starting to watch more of them.
The list of TV Shows that I like are...
Fringe
House
Supernatural
The Office
Lincoln Heights (I haven't watched this in a year though, I wonder if I'll still like it...)
I'm looking for suggestions for whatever TV shows you guys may like... I heard Dexter was good, but I haven't heard much about it before.

I usually don't watch many shows unless I get them on Netflix, for the same reason you mentioned (watching them from the start), but my wife and I have gone through quite a few shows in recent years.
Deadwood
The Wire
Sopranos
Dexter
Mad Men
Breaking Bad
Six Feet Under
Lost
That's what I can think of off the top of my head. All very good shows.

How I Met Your Mother
The Big Bang Theory
24
Scrubs
The Office
My Name is Earl
NCIS
...if you watch these shows, you are cool. If not, you know what the problem is.

Burn Notice
Royal Pains
Monk
Psych
Bones
NCIS
Army Wives (my wife makes me and I am secure enough to admit it)
As far as regular programs, that's about all I have time for. Other than that, I look for baseball or a good movie.

The Sopranos is the best tv show I have ever followed, but I'm a sucker for a good mob story.
I also got into Sons of Anarchy last year, and can't wait for season 2 this fall. And I think I'm the only person in America that saw every (or any) episode of Life on Mars on ABC before it was cancelled. Gotta love Harvey Keitel and Michael Imperioli.
I would like to see:
-The Wire
-The Shield
-Deadwood
-Breaking Bad

I couldn't get into Life on Mars. I gave it a try for a handful of episodes, but then I noticed I never wanted to watch any of the rest of them I had stored up on my DVR, so I just deleted them.
IMO, The Wire is better than The Sopranos, and just maybe the best show ever put on TV. Deadwood is also excellent (although I'd slot it just below The Sopranos). I've not watched The Shield or Breaking Bad.

I watch a lot of reruns of shows that are no longer in production. The new shows I keep tabs on are...
The Office
Mad Men
Top Chef
Project Runway
ANTM
Make Me A Supermodel
The Simpsons (sometimes)
I'd watch Ninja Warrior if we had the next tier of cable! We used to have it, but when they changed the packages, we lost G4. Sadness. In defense of the reality shows, I don't watch the dating ones (Bachelor, etc.), but I do enjoy the ones that could be classified as "competitive reality" -- watching chefs cook, models model, designers design, and so on. I could deal without them all living in the same house and watching the house-drama, but I do like the actual competition.

I keep hearing that and that's the reason I put it at the top of my "to do" list. I didn't get into The Sopranos until A&E started re-airing it. (No HBO in college when the series started.) After catching up on the first 2 seasons I started buying them on DVD. Somehow, I managed to avoid any spoilers until I completed the last season earlier this year.

I guess being home so much leads me to watch a lot of shows. My favorites though are:
NCIS
Criminal Minds
Fringe
24
Saving Grace
Hawthorne
The Closer
True Blood
Burn Notice
The Daily Show
Comedy Central StandUps
The Bill Maher Show
There is more but I also think The Wire is the best show I have seen on TV but that said I believe that HBO is amazing with the various series they have put on. I was particularly nuts about Carnival.

I follow Burn Notice these days. Many shows listed were great. I would reccommend Deadwood, being forewarned their tagline was accurate "They didn't call it the badlands for nothing!" The language was enough to shock most folks I know and put too many of them off. It was great and HBO owes us a conclusion! The Sopranos was great and the only weak episodes were usually the season enders. The Wire was excellent, but I lost interest in a season or two that didn't offer a story line as strong as the first season. The Shield was also excellent. My Name is Earl is a scream. I watch True Blood, but frankly, I enjoy the theme song more than most of the episodes. HBO hires "critics" to blow up all of their shows and most of the build-up is pure horsecrap. Wasting a couple of hours on "John From Cincinatti" will document this, as would Eastbound and Down. The same folks raving about these are the same liars trying to convince me that Anna Paquin is a real knockout. She isn't.

For a real vampire film you should check out Let The Right One In. You have to read subtitles, but it was one of the best movies that came out last year. It's not an action movie though, more of a horror/drama flick. I'm not much of an Anime fan, but Vampire Hunter D is really good stuff too.
I liked the first couple season of rescue me, but it went of the rails last season IMO. That and the fact that every time I see Denis Leary it pisses me off thinking about how he stole his entire act from Bill Hicks.

I beg to differ because I got into Rescue Me about a year into the show. Leary is the key to its success as he is one of the main writers, sometimes producer and or director and a true revelation as an actor. I remember Bill Hicks very well and no way do I see Dennis as ripping him off.
One thing really puzzled me about something I watched in the middle of the night. Richard Jenni was always one of my favorite comedians and I was stunned when he committed suicide a couple of years ago. They were showing one of his special and there was a piece he dd on Michael Jackson which was hysterical when MJ was alive but I was surprised HBO shoed it after his death. Seemed like bad taste to me.

I don't particularly care about the trials and tribulations of a male prostitute (nor a female one for that matter). It just didn't seem like a particularly appealing premise.
FrankEC
08-05-2009, 03:03 PM
Well, it's about more than just a male prostitute. He's actually a high school coach/teacher and former Braves prospect (I swear it's in the show) who falls on really hard times. His wife leaves him admittedly for a guy with more money, he has a house fire but forgot to pay the insurance and is living in a tent in his backyard. As a result, his teenage kids, whom he loves, have to move in with their mother. So, he turns to prostitution as a way out. It's really about how far a guy is willing to go for his kids.
The comedy part comes in the fact that both he and his pimp are new to the business and really have little to no idea what they're doing.
I agree, Rap, that the first few episodes were kind of boring, but the last 2 have actually been pretty good, particularly this week's episode.

I tend to see Hung as another of HBO's efforts at going to the lowest level to try and attract and audience. Then of course they have those "critics" who claim it's the greatest thing since canned beer. I like Thomas Jane, but this show is rather weak. I think I like Community so much because I went to a satellite campus of a larger university for most of college. It was "community college"-like in setting, but not in courseload. You had the same people in classes over and over, there was one common break room, and it was as diverse in background as you see on Community. It kinda makes me miss those days -- getting a fruit cup out of the vending machine during breaks, gossiping with an African-American woman twice my age about what her cousin is up to, rarely seeing people outside of school, etc. :D
I've tried Parks & Rec twice, and didn't like either episode I saw. I won't miss MNiE -- the schtick was getting old, and now that it's syndicated it's bugging me more.

What a cliff-hanger of a season finale, last night. As a relatively new father myself, the last 10 minutes of the episode was like watching my worst nightmare unfold. A lot of loose ends were left dangling for season 3. It's going to be a long 9 months of waiting for SOA fans.

I guess they'll just carry on without ever mentioning what happened to Carla, or they could make a tiny scene explaining why she's not there like they did with the Janitor last week.

No Dr. Jan Itor? I might not watch, then. I really liked him.

Yeah, he was hilarious. The actor that played the janitor is on that new show, The Middle, with the lady from Everybody Loves Raymond.

When I saw Mean Girls, I didn't know Neil Flynn played LiLo's dad. I said "Janitor!" aloud in the theatre when he came on screen and that produced a few giggles from the people around me. Good times. :D

I love SOA but I have always despised Jax's character, or mor elikely actor, since he always seemed like a whimp trying to act like he's tough. Now that I know he's a british actor, it makes more sense LoL.
Modern Family is great, I agree there. Community is good too, the first 4 or 5 episodes were so-so but then the writing took off. I like Lie to me and Dexter also.

Mmmmm season 3 sounds great! I felt bad when they killed half-sack because he was a very interesting character and lent some innocence to the gang/club.
Here's a link to that interview with Kurt Sutter (http://sepinwall.blogspot.com/2009/12/sons-of-anarchy-kurt-sutter-season-two.html). It gives good insight to Sutter's thought process behind season 2 and his plans for season 3. It's safe. No spoilers.

I just read the interview and even posted a comment about what is bothering me; Cameron took Abel because he overheard Stahl saying that Gemma shot his kid. This is the same Stahl that Cameron told his kid to kill. Wouldn't he want to have it confirmed. Instaed he exacts his revenge against the very person and group that saved his life at their own risk?

I've been watching The Walking Dead on AMC recently. The series is only two episodes in but it's sooo awesome so far. I don't usually remember when a t.v. show airs a new episode, normally I just pull up On Demand and try to catch all the episodes in succession but this show has me forming a habit of staying tuned for each episode. I'm loving it. I like it's high pace and the idea that anything can happen. There are no rules when there is no government and that opens the door to so many shameless possibilities, which The Walking Dead seems to be taking complete advantage of. I'm constantly thinking what I'd do if I were in each of the characters shoes. It opens up a lot of creativity in your thought process which is a lot of fun. Has anyone else seen it?

I'm still watching SOA but recently got 3 months of free Showtime and got kinda hooked on Dexter! Think I'll ask for all seasons of it for Christmas. I like the stories and just how much thinking goes into them. The cast is pretty great, too! Looking forward to the return of Archer!

The Walking Dead is awesome. I wasn't sure they'd be able to pull off a television series about zombies, but they seem to be doing it. I actually post a blog each week for the local paper about the show. I've definitely been enjoying it.
Another awesome show I finally caught up with on DVD and am now watching as fresh episodes are aired is Fringe. Good stuff.

Walking dead is good..... It actually makes me wanna read the comic it's based on... Which is akin to making me want to eat my own afterbirth... so... yeah it's a good show! :-)

I watched the first half-dozen or so episodes of Fringe when it first came on, but I couldn't get into it. I wanted to like it, but I found I just didn't care for any of the characters. Perhaps they fixed that in later episodes, but by then I had given up. Many folks seem to like it these days.

As much as I was enjoying SOA, the recent events have struck me as a bit over the top. I've known plenty of bikers and biker gangs in my travels and none are as melodramatic as these guys. I enjoyed the show more when they were acting more like fringe elements instead of some kind of arms cartel. The story about the kid getting hijacked and the gang going to Ireland, bikes and all, is closer to something I'd expect from Peter Griffin, than bikers. Watching Jax decide to "give away" his kid was pretty much an analogy for the season....they've gone a long way for a little....
I am anxious to see this season of Justified. It was pretty good last season.

Doesn't matter to me whether or not the story lines of SAMCRO are realistic. I love the show and am ecstatic to see that it was picked up for a Season 4.
And I agree on Justified. Another really good show. I love the Boyd Crowder character.

The episode of SOA that aired 11/23/10 with everyone back in Charming and closer to reality was a good one. Plenty of action and twists and a big question mark hangs over the dome of a certain rat!

I've seen every episode of SOA but I find myself wondering why I keep watching. I don't really know. I can't stand the actor who plays Samcro and I only find one or two characters believable. The plot is outrageous and their are huge chunks of story line all over the place that never make sense. I guess I only still watch because they set the bar so low that it only takes a little action to stir up some excitement. It's like the A-Team of the new millenium and I loved that show. It's got something going for it but I can't quite put my finger on itm

Well that turned out a lot different than I expected. I figured the "rat" story would be the main topic of interest going into season 4 but Sutter twisted it to perfection. Season ended on a high note this time, but with plenty of good storyline opportunities going into season 4. Over-the-top or not, this is a really good show.

I'm just thrilled that the bitch finally got her head blown off even though she has always turned me on. lol Next year's SOA will be awesome as Jax finds out that his mom and step dad killed his dad. What really stunned me was right after watching SOA I watched a film Nicholas Nickelby where Charley Hunnam (Jax) played the title role and where you see that he is an English actor.

Watched the season finale of SOA when I got home this morning. It was great! The right characters got clipped and with the guys headed off to a short bit, we have all sorts of story possibilities. Aside from the club doing Ireland, this series has been very good since it's debut. I missed 3 or 4 mid-season shows because Fox tried to jack up their prices and DishNetwork fought them. The Fox programming was reduced during that period and FX was one of the channels they clipped. Can't wait for the new seasons of Archer and Justified!

I watched the pilot episode when it first aired and sort of thought, "meh". But, certainly from the second half of season 1 onward, it has gotten much more interesting. It's worth a second look, I think.

Freakin' dish receiver went on the fritz over the weekend! All my recorded episodes are history! I had several great concerts from HDNet, a coupla good movies and most of the past season of SOA, not to mention all of season 3 and 4 to date of Burn Notice. Hopefully they'll have it repaired when I get off work. I'll be getting a new receiver.....glad I had already seen all the old stuff! Wish I knew how to copy stuff off the DVR onto my computer!

Who's you favorite character? Mine has gotta be Raj. Sheldon makes the show what it is, but Raj is so great at physical comedy and has the best acting ability. and his not being able to talk about around unless drunk is just funny as hell and never gets old.

Yes. I love the Big Bang Theory as well. I disagree though. I think Jim Parsons (Sheldon) is the best actor on the show, but the entire cast is fantastic. Each one of them has moments that are hilarious.
Community has become my favorite show on t.v. I think. It keeps getting better. This season has been excellent.

LOVE the Big Bang Theory. Sheldon Cooper is one of the most original, well written, and well acted characters on TV in a long time.
The first episode I ever saw was the one where they were making Penny Blossoms and Sheldon drank coffee for the first time. Him in the Flash costume running around the apartment had me laughing so hard I could barely breathe. I've been hooked ever since.
