Tommy Hanson has been optioned back to Gwinnett (http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090710&content_id=5805126&vkey=news_atl&fext=.jsp&c_id=atl) so he can get some work in over the All-Star Break. He'll return on July 20th and won't miss a start.

Why not Medlen? Don't mess with the KID!

Medlen is making the start on Sunday in place of Javier Vazquez. Vazquez has a minor abdominal issue. It's not a big deal though.

It was just a move to make room for a bullpen pitcher. We brought a guy up to help out while Medlen is making a start and since Hanson wouldn't be pitching, he might as well be off the roster until his next start. It's a really smart move.

Braves take a 2 run lead on a Garret Anderson double that scores Prado and Chipper.

Lowe in some trouble in the bottom of the 2nd. Runners at 1st and 2nd with no one out.

1 out on a fielder's choice. Runners at the corners. Come on Lowe! Get that DP ball!

Lowe gets out without any damage. A groundball to 2B ends the inning! Great work!

Todd Helton hits a solo HR to make it 2-1, but the tarp is coming on the field due to rain

Call the game!!!!!
Helton's homer helps me and we get the win. Bam, I'm a team player.

Yeah, I assume Lowe is done, which means he has a shot at a 4 hit outing AND a win.
I have Tulowitski, but you won't hear ME cheering on a Tulo HR. Still, Dream, I approve of calling the game!

Prado whacked a liner up the middle off of Alan Embree's right leg. It hit just above the ankle and he had to be carted off. Hate to see that, but hopefully it's just a Kotchman type injury and he'll be back in there soon. But man, I think it's broken.

Nice job by Acosta right there. He got a strikeout on a 3-2 slider to end the inning. Going to the eighth, 2-1 Braves.

Yeah, he got hit pretty hard. It sounded awful.

Yes. McCann starts the eighth with a double. Get him in, Anderson.

Diory comes through a 2 RBI double! 4-1 Braves
Interesting. Acosta is hitting for himself. We're short on the bench tonight. Escobar is hurt with a sore back, Kotchman is sick, and Francoeur was traded. Blanco was used immediately after the rain delay to hit for Lowe, so Ross is our only healthy bench option left.

Nice to see Diory coming through big-time. Keep the pressure off our bullpen. Good job bud. And nice game by Lowe tonight.

****. So much for the pressure being off the bullpen. Let's go Braves, don't pee in my cheerios.

That was cool. Foul tip off the catchers glove, then the catcher jumps up and catches it before it hits the ground. I don't know if I've ever seen that. O'Flaherty continues to pitch well. He buzzed Hawpe with a couple of fastballs, though I'm not sure if the second one was intentional. 4-1 Braves, top of the ninth.

This is your closer folks. Make no bones about it. Soriano is money.
Boog just spit this stat out.
Hitters are 4 for 56 against Soriano with runners on base.
Cox isn't a dummy. He may say it's a day to day basis, but when the game's on the line, Soriano is on the mound.

Listen carefully and you'll hear the sound of some fans doing the tomahawk chop in Denver.
And that's ball game. Great pitching from Lowe, Acosta, O'Flaherty and Soriano.

I have a question about that play when McCann jumped up and caught the ball after it had already hit his glove. If he had caught the foul tip off the bat, it would have been a strikeout, right? So shouldn't O'Flaherty get a strikeout on that play even though McCann had to jump up and catch it as if it were a pop out?

Soriano is the anti-Gonzales.
Did you see Brian pick up the rosin bag and hit Chipper in the back as they were walking off?

After the game, Bobby mentioned that he sees O'Flaherty as a full inning reliever next year. So when the offseason comes and we're wondering what will happen with the pen, we should keep that in mind.

Prado's liner ended Embree's season. Article says a broken right tibia. OUCH!
