I guess this move is really to give KJ sometime in the minors to work on his swing I doubt he is really hurt.

I don't know anything about Brooks Conrad, but with Prado playing so well, I assume he won't see much, if any, action.

Conrad does have a good deal of power. He has hit over 90 combined HRs in his last 4 seasons in the minors including this year. He also is a right handed bat that can help off the bench. Johnson is really only useful as a starter b/c he doesnt play mulitiple positions and is not going to get hot at the plate hitting once a game.

The real question is..... Is Kelly Johnson gone forever? I say yes.

He had a full set of options so if they wanted to demote him, he would be demoted.

I'm kind of suprised they didn't bring up the a-hole to replace KJ. I'm sure glad they didn't.

I have to wonder if this was a new problem that just came up or something KJ has been struggling with all season. it could potentially explain a lot, or it could be a way to get KJ a bunch of practice time in non-game situations. Of course it could be a legitimate injury as well.

I was listening to the radio pre-game show and they stressed that KJ's injury is a legitimate one. They said a lot of players would have been talking about it to the media a long time ago. He's been trying to play through it, but with Prado's recent play and the All Star break coming up it makes sense to let him shut it down for a while. Hopefully some time on the DL will allow the pain to go away and he can fix his swing during a rehab assignment.

If I understand the situation correctly KJ got this injury, attempted to fight through it, and refused to give up and go on the DL until it was clear the way he was playing he wasn't the best option at 2B and the Braves had someone playing better than him. I remain a huge KJ fan.

That much is obvious KB. His injury will result in KJ remaining a Brave through the end of the season now instead of by the trade deadline.
