The floundering Marlins lost their manager today as Rodriguez resigned. They have lost 17 of 18 games. He took over after Fredi Gonzalez was fired and only lasted 92 games, which gave him an even .500 46-46 record. Little surprised...maybe he was under pressure?

A little surprising. What a dysfunctional organization they run down there.

It will get even better when Ozzie Guillen arrives.

I read this morning that they close to bringing back the 80 year old Jack McKeon to take over. Hey, why not. It worked for them once before.

They sure are dysfunctional and it just doesn't seem fair that in their short history as a MLB franchise, they have twice as many World Series titles as Atlanta. :(

I'm amazed how short-sighted they are in bringing in an 80 year old to close out the season. I'm equallly amazed that Jack Mckeon has the desire and energy to take on the job at his age.

It irritates me that a team with that kind of dysfunction has more titles than our Barves.

We can thank Eric Gregg for that.

Frank Wren should have offered Fredi Gonzales a Cheeseburger Happy Meal instead of greenbacks. He was probably wanting out of the crazy Marlins organization bad enough to have accepted it.

Not to pick nits, but Fredi Gonzalez required no enticement to leave Florida as he had, by the time we were interested in hiring him, been out of that job for months. However, I would still like to support your idea to offer him a Cheeseburger Happy Meal because it seems like a nice thing to do and because I understand he is a ravenous collector of limited edition chidren's movie action figures.

Jim Riggleman quit today as the Nationals' manager. It appears the Nats weren't willing to extend the lowest paid manager in MLB thru 2012. Dude was doing a good job just like Manny Acta. Ummm?

Probably an issue Riggleman should have raised this past off-season.

Unless the Nats finished strongly and were well above .500 at the end of the season, rumor has it that they were going to get rid of Riggleman. He knew that ... and I think he was trying to use the current winning streak as leverage to get another year. Deep down, he probably knew this was the best time to ask for a job extension before the Nats regressed back to their typical sucky performance on the field (well, typical sucky performance except when playing the Braves).

Joe Lemire over at CNNSI points out that this probably cooked Riggleman's goose in terms of future hirings. Nevertheless, I can see why he was upset. He has done a good job over there, and mostly been kicked around for his troubles...

Roy Oswalt got hurt (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/homepage/20110623_Oswalt_hurt_as_Phillies_are_routed_by_Cardinals.html) yesterday. That's a start ;)

My favorite part of this is how, when they asked him, he said he would have to ask his wife if she was okay with it... but he was excited. Yep, even 80yo men need to get the okay before making a life-changing decision like this.
